Apps on Multiple phones

If my hubby and I both have droids and we both want the same app that cost money. Do we both have to pay for it or can we pay once and both use it?

I have the same dilemma. Both my wife and I have HTC Legened's and I'd rather not have to duplicate purchases if it's not necessary.

Technically, I own both phones and if I had two MP3 players, there would be no problems to <legally> copy songs from one MP3 player to the other, so I'm not sure why it would be so different with phones.

can you sync your google account to 2 phones? maybe you can buy it on one phone, sync your google account to the second phone, then download it for free? worth a shot

While that would likely work, it would be unlikely that anyone would keep two phones with two different users and the same google account. It wouldn't be worth the trouble to have to re-sync all the contacts and calendar events just to transfer an app that likely cost under $4.

Unfortunately that is one of the things that Google hasn't done as well as Apple and is making us rethink staying with Android. We used to share all our apps and music in Itunes for the Ipod's and Iphones. It really brings the cost down and some of the games were really fun with multiple units. I haven't figures out a way to do it with Android - at least not easy and legal. Hopefully Google will get their act together on this.

If you both use the same Google account then you can both download the app. I don't see how anyone is surprised. All of the people clamoring for being able to purchase an app one time and use it on two separate phones used by two separate people are essentially advocating piracy. These are $2 apps! Support the devs and quit crying.

The point is, the money is for the dev to develop the product and if everyone can go around and just copy apps then they could just give them to anybody. Thus less money to improve said product. If the dev did not want or need money for the app then it would be free.

Yes, or the $30 logmein app. Paying $60 for two phones that I own (my wife may be the user, but I own the phone and I also use that phone on occasion as well), is insane. Software on PC (from realistic developers), often allow for the installation of 2 or 3 machines, as long is they are owned by the person who purchased the software.

I certainly don't advocate piracy (I've purchased loads of apps for my phone), but things would suck if you're in the situation I mentioned above.

For example you can install steam anywhere but you can't have the same login active at the same time to avoid just what your trying to do.

The best path is to have one account used for purchases, contacts and that both phones sync to regardless of who is holding the unit.
As for saying "this would drive us away from android" no not likely. The Home share they were speaking of has only been out in there latest version, it only showed up in recent versions of itunes starting around the beginning of 2010. Previous to that only jail broke phones were able to share out purchased from iTunes apps. This is from experience I speak. I can even tell you exactly what files need to be altered to allow this.
This is a double edged sword discussion. The old adage of the mp3 days is true. We bought it we should be allowed to use it lend it give it as we see fit. The other cutting edge is there is less money going into the men and women who deserve it ie the DEV teams. There is no straight answer or clear one to this. I think the best is to let your moral compass do the guiding.
Sony has it right with there e readers. You can share all your library with up to six readers. This gives six individuals the ability to buy read and share all there choices with six others.
As for android well the best is to sync the two phones to the same account, let your compass assist in decisions of share or not. 30.oo is a high price for a sometimes used app and my compass would for sure be looking to sync this app. .99cents how ever seems a little well you all get the idea.........................

Yes, while that may be a limitation for that software, the point is that as the owner of both phones, the user should be "allowed" to install the app on both devices. Again, I don't think people are talking about ripping off the developers, but they do want to be able to install apps to more than one device that they own.

Must admit I was wondering about this too. Not to have two phones, but I'm planning on getting an android tablet as well as my phone and was hoping I wouldn't have to pay again. Especially for slingplayer as that's 20 dollars!
