The local Verizon store had 2 Fascinate's that were being used by employees. They received them yesterday. I was able to mess around with them for a little while over lunch today.
My initial impressions:
- The screen still looks GORGEOUS.
- 2.1
- The Fascinate seems snappier than the Captivate (I owned the Cap for a month). The random lagginess on the Captivate didn't seem to present itself. Maybe I didn't get to play long enough with it.
- The 4 lower capacitive touch buttons seem much more responsive on the Fascinate. One of my major complains of the Captivate was that I could hit "Home" and nothing would happen. Sometime I literally had to tap-tap-tap the Home button to get it to work.
- Couldn't test the camera w/ flash due to no external SIM card installed. The camera app kept complaining about no memory.
- One of the phones I messed with hadn't been activated, so I couldn't download Google maps or GPSTest and test the GPS.
- The Verizon manager/rep told me that the Samsung rep was saying that you could put on Google Search. No further info was given, but I could tell he wasn't completely up on this phone quite yet (still learning), so I didn't pursue it.
Oh, and I did get to see the gel case(s) that will be available. Didn't catch the brand, but it's very similar to the Body Glove case on the Captivate. It comes in 3 colors; red, blue, and black. It looks nice, and I would recommend anyone getting this phone to pick up the case too. The stock phone is plastic glossy black and slim and can be quite "slick" in your hands when you hold it.
