Maps wont stay off..

How come my maps keep turning on? I turn it off and it keeps turning back on. I have everything set to off.

No, but I think it always turns itself on also.

that was my problem. latitude was updating where my friends were so it constantly ran in the background.

I really dont know, I go into latitude and its running. As far as maps running, I see it in the battery usage and in the settings, running services show it is running.

Here is the issue on Google code, it started with Maps 4.4.0:

I got so sick of it, I used Titanium to uninstall the new version, rebooted, then downloaded an apk of 4.3.0 the last version to not autostart all the time.

Also I read that link posted in the reply above, and some of the peoples information in there is just wrong saying it doesn't use battery just idling. From my tests with it even if I didn't use maps at all after a full day before putting it on the charger it shows in battery use with at least 3% usually much more. My battery life has been MUCH better since I went back to the old version and able to force close it from my running tab.

If you go to Settings>Location & security and turn off both "Use wireless networks" and "Use GPS satellites," I'm not sure Maps could be doing much even if it is "on." Did you try that? I've had much better battery life since I turned these things off.

With Maps 4.4.0 and up it is a background process 'locationfriendservice' and now Maps:BackgroundFriendService with 4.5.0 that will constantly run regardless of your settings. If you close Maps with a task killer or thru the running tab in apps, it restarts because of those processes even with Latitude off

Never had them on.
