Review - Project Elite

Installation & Set up
I flashed the ROM and signed in to Google via the market. I had no apps restore. I downloaded TiBU and restored my backed up apps and data. There is not much customization to be done so I was up and running in about 40 minutes from start to finish. I am using the Slayher 1000LV 1.6 kernel and thebowers

Had a problem..I wiped D&C like always..

Had to sign in, and used the slide out keyboard. When typing in my password, which has letters and numbers and so forth, it has that problem Liquid had with 1.5 (I think it was 1.5); where when you press ALT, it messes up and won't go back to standard letters (like it is before you press ALT).

Could just be my phone...

Its from the droid2 keyboard. Some have reported that with the droid2 keyboard it does something to the physical keyboard. Next release I will most likley remove the d2 keyboard and have it as an addon. If you still haven't signed in you can bypass the setup screen and go into accounts and setting and log into your gmail account with the soft keyboard. In order to use physical keyboard you have to get use to pressing alt again as well as the shit button to get it to go back to normal letters.
other then that did you get it up and running?

What's the shit button?

I may load it now - but I need sleep. I will check it out.
I didn't read ALL the features, but that being said, for a ROM to work for me, there needs to be UD8 type settings.
The 'assign home key' - with any app I like on a long press, is a MUST now for me.

Hmmm - Here is my first impression mini review:

Market was "downloading" (restoring) all of my market apps and stuck on DL. When I tried canceling the DL to reinstall, the Market FC'd and basically, I can't do anything in the Market.
What is TW Launcher? It's similar to ADW, but it looks like it's for blind people.

(Not the ROM's fault, but what's up with these crappy themes. The Market isn't even themed with the GalaxyS)

Other than scripts, I think the the CM6 styled settings is becoming the standard - or at least scripts that can be run via point and click - this is required to keep up with the Jones'. Having to slide out the keyboard and hold X while holding power simiply saves you the step of pulling the battery. Other ROMs have the reboot into recovery built right in to the hold power function, because we can't always use two hands (giggity) to hold two buttons.

Felt quick, but nothing mindblowing. That stock Slayher kernel is fast, but get's hot just as fast.

I wanted to try it a bit more, but that Market issue right out of the gate is a big no no for me. Just causes endless headaches. I can't restore T. BU if it's stuck in DL and nomally I cancel and restart the DL, but that didn't happen, so yeah.

Otherwise nice ROM - I wish I could have given it more time.

Sorry for your issue with the market. thats the first i have heard of this. most are saying the market restores their apps really fast. the power reboot option in the menu button is goin to be a future release and the power and hold x button is basically so you dont have to pull battery incase your loading themes or stuck in loop or whatever might be the case.

Twlauncher is the galaxy s launcher. its rather slow imo but i like how its setup. I'm hoping to implement the cm6 style settings in future as well. actually I would like a gui interface for scripts but thats all in the future. we will see if everything pans out and maybe you can give it another shot a little later down the road. but thanks for trying it out anyway.

Hey guys, just thought I would throw in my .02... I have been on Project Elite for a couple days now, coming from UD 8.0, and to be honest, after trying half a dozen different Roms, didn't think that it could get any better than UD8, but I was wrong! Elite is amazing! it doesn't have near the customization options that UD8 has, but it is very very fast right out of the box! If you're one of those who doesn't want to download and install a kernel requiring setcpu, this is for you! I have read the reviews about keyboard problems, but I had none... (just slide it closed, and used the touchscreen) This is the first Rom I have tried that gave me no problems with my Swype beta... Installed easy, and works like a charm! I installed the evolution theme, and am loving it... Great for my liking... I also downloaded the newest Slayher 1.2 Ghz LV Kernel, and even Oc'd to 1200 it runs flawlessly! I have never had an FC, and every transition is smooth as glass! battery seems to be as good or better than anything I have used to this point as well! My only want is a few more themes, and customization options, and maybe a few cool wallpapers... I'm sure that's all headed our way though! *****

So there's my .02

First off thanks for the great review. Second you can bet that more customizations will be coming in future releases for sure. And third a few themers are porting their respected themes as we speak. Carlsz28,s was posted today over at droidforums and 928droids black glass is being worked on. If you have any theme requests shoot the themer a pm about the theme I know bgill55 said if there are enough requests he will port incogntio and invertigo over. Hopefully the rom will continue to grow and more theme will be. Ported.
Thanks again

That sounds great! Been waiting for the 928 theme, and will flash it as soon as it arrives! Had a couple questions about a preferred script app? Suggestions? Also, any chance of seeing a rotary lock screen, and lock screen music player controls in the future? I couldn't be more pleased so far! Thanks so much for everything! Donations are on the way!

It is interesting to see how a ROM takes off on different forums. It seems to depend very much upon a few of the acknowledged smart guys on the forum trying a given ROM and giving a quick thumb's up to suddenly launch a ROM to the heights...likewise, a lukewarm review or two can make a particular ROM pretty unpopular on a given forum, while "one forum over" the same ROM is the "shit du jour" if you will pardon my expression.

I see that this ROM is receiving RAVE reviews on other forums and is seen as "the next big thing" by a lot of users.

But, it seems that unless it gets some pretty quick traction here on this forum with a couple of the acknowledged power geeks it could kind of stumble along without much of a following.

As most of you know, I do ROM testing for several developers, including Pete, Liquid and now actngrezy. I tested this ROM prior to release and I can tell you that it's fast screen-to-screen and app-to-app. I have about 124 apps, as well as a VERY heavy Sweeter Home 2 setup. I judge all ROMs by how well they handle my SH2 theme (I was unable to Run UD-xTreme 8.0 because of the lag, bitmap errors and FCs on my setup) and this ROM did a phenomenal job! The new Swype beta also installed and ran flawlessly. And I love getting back to a ROM that allows me to run slayher kernels on interactive mode without SetCPU. Keep up the great work Greg!
