2.2 update.. Where is it on HTC?

Hey so i've had a look around the forums and there are crap loads of topics about upgrading to 2.2 and how you need to debrand or wait for a provider specific update..

Well my phone is not with any specific provider so i thought i would be able to go to HTC and find some info about upgrading to 2.2... however i can't? I am in the HTC Sync and it doesn't offer me any update option either that i can see

Any suggestions? I don't want to do anything to my phone that i can avoid... i'm assuming HTC released a version that you don't need to root your phone to install ay?

Settings>About Phone>System software updates>Check now.

On your phone, go to

Settings:About Phone:System Software Updates and click 'Check Now' at the bottom of the screen.

You'll need a 3G or WiFi connection.
