Root Can somebody tell me how to...

as far as i know, you should be ok upgrading to the OTA. i dont think any of those things should cause the phone to brick. most of the bricking is caused by people trying to theme the OTA.
if you like themes, etc, i would recommend to getting to the 2.2 using the leaked versions, but that is just me.
otherwise, i think you should be just fine installing the leak. neither the root, nor the theme would cause the phone to brick. i think any bricks so far are just random bad luck, and not anything like themes or root.

i'm in the same exact situation. i have 2 questions: 1) would updating to the leak remove the theme and black status bar? and 2) would installing the leak essentially remove root, the theme, and the black status bar/tray? i know i could root after but i want to theme again. thanks

Do you want the leaked 2.2 or the official OTA 2.2? You can get the theme on both but you will have to manually deodex the official. I haven't seen anyone that has done this yet though.

1.) yes it would. you will need to deodex the phone to get the black status bar back,

2.) you can keep root by moving su from system/bin to system/xbin BEFORE you install the leak. after that, find the update.zip to deodex that includes the black status bar, and at that point there are tons of themes you can apply. lemme find a link to that deodex link for ya.

edit: here is the link that will help you deodex your 2.2 leak. [DEODEX] Update.zip deodex - Droid X Releases - AllDroid Public Board - [DEODEX] Update.zip deodex - Droid X Releases - AllDroid Public Board - AllDroid.org > Home

although, here are a bunch of roms out there that are already deodexed once you make it to 2.2. best of luck, and please let us know if you have any questions.

also, here is a great list of ROMs and themes compiled by Droider (D13) that you can use once you update. IMHO, FlyX is awesome, and it will deodex your system for you.

Okay, so sorry if I seem like a complete noob, but I very little to nothing about rooting and all that. Can anybody point me in in the direction of a guide and/or give me complete steps on how to upgrade to the 2.2 leak while maintaining root and my theme?

Droid X. You will not retain your theme. There is really no way since the files are different between the two. Or you can use rom manager and download the stock image in there. Then you will then want to fild the version of froyo you would like to upgrade to 2.3.13 or 2.3.15 upgrade to that which is already deodexed (I believe). Then locate the froyo version of the theme you want and install that.

If you want to go to 2.2 leak just get ROM manager.Koush has a rooted 2.2 and I also believe its deodexed. You lose theme but you can just apply it again no big deal.

Get to 2.2 OTA from where I'm currently at?

I currently have 2.1, rooted, with NexTheme. What is the correct path, in detail, to get to 2.2 without bricking my phone over some stupid shit.

You should return to complete stock if possible. I believe Fab has theme remover somewhere around here that also restores any missing apps.

Frankly I'd go leak.

Okay, so can you give me a hand with going leak (lol) then? I know others have posted trying to help, but I still don't really understand how to get from where I am to the latest leak version.

Would it help if I SBF'd back to stock 2.1? At this point, I don't really care about maintaining root/themes, because I can reconfigure all of that once I'm on the latest leak. Right?
