another thing i was gonna ask is whats the easiest way to change the notification bar color, can someone plz post step by step instructions

thx in advance

this thread contains a bunch of different themes. each link contains detailed instructions on how to install them. those give you the different notification bars.

http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/167180-droid-x-roms-themes.html

wireless tether (free in market)
Rom Manager (allows you to easily download and change roms and themes)
titanium backup to save all your apps and data
or mybackuppro (4.99 i think)
adfree removes ads from the browser and apps (free)
root explorer (~$4) but essential to moving around system files and installing a lot of stuff
terminal emulator (free) lets you do adb stuff on your phone
cache cleaner (free) does what it says
autokiller (free) basically enhances androids internal memory management
setcpu (1.99) lets you set processor profiles for better battery life
drocap2 or shootme - for screen shots
droid x bootstrap - backup/recovery/zip application (must have)

lol my bad... i already got all those apps. are those like the only cool/useful apps? because when i look at other websites for rooted apps there all the same as the ones you put.. there has to be another list right?

there really arent a ton more apps that are for root. the best part of root is being able to modify the phone. and hopefully we will be able to overclock again.

also, one of the really cool things you can do is install different boot animations.

check these out...
Boot Animations - Droidboots

to install them, just name the zip "bootanimation.zip" and put it in data/local. there are some pretty darn cool ones.

If your on the leaked 2.2 then the easiest way to get the black notification bar is to use the rom manager to download blackbar mod I think its under extras or you can try an entire theme.i just got the Navair black bar for now.

no im on the OTA 2.2 i was on the leaked but then i went back to 2.1 for the official update

I just did something fun.

Wireless Tether...obviously one of the best apps for rooted phones.

So just for kicks, I just tried to play on Xbox Live by connecting my 360 to my Droid X on the 3G network.....and it worked........BEAUTIFULLY...I just played Modern Warfare 2 Free For All match and went 24-9... with 3 Bars in the room I was in the whole time.

This phone just plains OWNS!

same here i have no clue whats going on with anything, i need a complete guide for noobs

I'm in the same boat, I've asked some very helpful and knowledgeable people some of the questions I have through pm's so I let you all know when I hear something. It seems easy but since I'm on 2. 2 OTA I don't want to take a chance. I've seen some @ssh0les saying noobs should do this but everyone has to start somewhere, luckily this forum is very helpful with little to no bashing.
