Root Help for newly rooted DINC user.. Very different from D1 root

Hey I'm not new to rooting but new to rooting the DINC. I have a D1 and have been rooted for a while but I recently rooted my friend's Incredible the other day. Things are very easy to do with the D1 but it seems like almost everything to do with the incredible (ROMS, kernels, radio?, etc) seems to have bugs or instability issues. I thought it would be about the same thing as the D1 but its very different. I am just wondering what are the benefits of root so far for the DINC? I know that you can install the same root apps as the D1 and different kernels are available for better battery life/overclocking.. but I'm a little confused actually. It seems like you can only overclock the DINC a tiny bit compared to how much you can overclock the D1 and I was wondering if it was worth it? And maybe some basic tips for the rooted DINC to get it to run stable but with the newer upgrades.. I have no clue what the S-off means and the radio update etc. Any help for a newly rooted DINC user would be greatly appreciated

i cant answer anything besides that S-OFF is used for when you update your DINC, you can still root after. if you have S-ON then update your phone there is a possibility that you will not be able to root ever again. but if you ever have to turn in your phone for a replacement, you can easily un-root and turn S-OFF back to S-ON. thats all i can answer. sorry but welcome.

Off subject Coled91 but my friend wants me to Root his D1. I don't want to go through pages and pages of reading for him. Do you have a link to a nice tutorial for the D1??? he has 2.2 on it via OTA update (i say this because I have seen a few root videos saying "won't work with FRG22-and thats what he has)

I just got a replacement droid a few days ago and I used this to root it.

soup or root was a very easy program and I used the 2.03 beta. Just make sure he has the motorola drivers installed and its as easy as downloading soup or root and running it

the processor in the Dinc is already a 1GHz processor, how much do you really want to try and overclock it?

also, if you S-OFF your phone, radio updates are super simple. otherwise it's kind of a pain.

the difference between overclocking the dinc and the og droid is how the oem set up the processors. the og droids omap processor was underlocked down to 550mhz before froyo and really could have been set up at at least 800 mhz with no issues but i believe motorolla wanted better battery life out of the box so people wouldnt complain. and most people report stable overclock up to 1.2 ghz.

the dinc snapdragon processor was clocked near its limits when released which results in no 200% increase in speed. however i have noticed that the jump from 1 ghz to 1.15 or 1.19 is a HUGE leap in performance for me when available ondemand.

different manufcaturers different chipsets, both great phones

why do I notice that most ROMs especially on the DINC are buggy? Since there are not really that many problems with the D1. I thought it might be because the DINC is newer and they haven't perfected it yet? And could I get a kernel suggestion with a link maybe? thanks alot

Keep in mind the D1 has been around since nov.

the Dinc wasn't rooted till june, and not "easy" root till July...
and it also just went through a major upgrade. Most of the ROMS I've seen in the past week have been very stable.
