Help Still having wifi problems after Froyo 2.2.1 FRG83 update

The 2.2.1 update was supposed to fix the problem that causes wifi to disconnect when my N1 goes to sleep. As far as I can tell, I'm still having the same problem and it might even be worse because I've noticed that sometimes wifi disconnects even when the phone is plugged in, which didn't happen before. Anyone else still experiencing this problem?

I have noticed that it's slightly better. During the day, when I access my phone frequently, it stays connected more often than not. But during the night, when I don't access the phone for many hours, it loses the wifi connection and I have to turn it off and back on. So much so that when I wake up in the morning I automatically disconnect and connect the wifi again because I know that I have lost the connection.

I wonder why this is a problem with the N1. I have not heard of any other phone having this problem.

IMO, it's def a problem with certain N1's. I don't recall the specifics but you can google the issue and find countless threads that are months long that deal with this very N1 wifi sleep issue. I can't count the hours I've spent reading up on a fix since I purchased my N1 back in June.

Anyway, back on topic, I'm going on 12 hours with 2.2.1 and it hasn't dropped the wifi yet. Every time I wake the phone, my wifi is still connected, not just showing a signal without being connected but actually connected! A quick 20 minute test showed that I could now actually use Slacker and Pandora with the screen off!(it would drop connection when the screen turned off in the past, every time)

The months of toggling the wifi each and every time I woke the phone at home are no more.....I hope Before this update, I had recently started using an app called "Wifi Fixer" with the 'nexus 1 wifi fix' checked on in the settings and I must say, it worked 90% of the time.

From what I've read in recent months, some were able to fix their N1 wifi issues by going with a static IP set up or simply using a 'known' to be compatible router.

We'll soon find out how good this fix was but I'm thankfull google continued looking into the matter

Nunya, not sure if "Wifi Fixer" with the new 2.2.1 will help as I only used it with 2.2 but if your still having problems, why not give it a try? That sucks that your still having the problem after the update though Good luck!

I don't think its the router. I've had my N1 since it first came out and I've probably used 3 or 4 different routers from a Linksys to a Trend Net to a Netgear since then and always had the problem. I know that not everyone is having the problem so I wonder if it could be that certain applications are causing this. It's the only complaint I have with this phone.

It's the N1. I don't think Google has or will talk about the N1 wifi issue but there are plenty of folks with the problem themselves who have been trying to figure out this issue since the phone became available.

Some have pretty much narrowed it down to a bug in the N1's wifi stack

Whether your affected or not with this bug seems to be a crap shoot with the N1 you received. Check to see if your N1's MAC address starts with a "38" instead of "00". N1's that start with a 38 seems to be prone to this issue, ie, mine. Whether you tried the compatible router fix, the static IP fix, the Wifi-Fixer app or whatever else 'fix' that were suggested, it just doesn't seem to work for everybody. Even this 2.2.1 update doesn't seem to be working for all

I have read numerous threads on this subject and I can't find them all but here's one thats 10 months old talking about this very issue. You'll come close to pulling your hair out reading some of these wifi issue threads!

I think it is an Android problem. Try Googling "Android wifi disconnect" and you will see many results with different phones. Desire, MyTouch, Nexus etc. My Samsung Galaxy i7500 has the same problem.

Yesterday I switched out my Belkin router for a D-link router and it looks as if my WiFi problems have improved. Now my phone seems to stay connected longer and when the WiFi does shut off, it reconnects a lot easier. When I went to bed last night, I awoke to find my phone had disconnected from WiFi when it went into sleep mode. I guess this will always be a problem with my N1. I have noticed when I leave certain programs such as Nimbuzz, running in the background, my phone seemed to stay on the whole time. I'll have to test this out overnight and get back to you with the results.

I've had pretty good luck with the WiFi Fixer app. I used to have terrible problems with WiFi drops but after I installed that and checked the Nexus One fix boxes, it's been pretty great.

The reviews of the wifi fixer app seem to be positive but when I tried to install it, I noticed that it was asking for more permissions than it needs to perform its job. I'm also a little skeptical of apps that appear to come out of China because cyber crime is a big problem in that region and I'd rather not take the risk of this app transmitting personal data abroad.

I didn't know that, no wonder Google is still looking into it. I truly thought they had given up on this issue with us N1 owners as I believe they themselves had announced that they would no longer look into it some time ago.

If its affecting more than just the N1 and across multiple manufacturers..........oops

It seems I lucked out and no longer need Wifi Fixer with the 2.2.1 update but I was a happy camper for the time I used Wifi Fixer. Don't know if it'll work for everyone who's having the issue even after 2.2.1 though. I'd def try it if it was me

My MAC address starts with "00" and have had problems from day one. Very frustrating.

Thank you everyone for letting me know about WiFi Fixer. I downloaded it last night and has worked great. For the first time, I woke up in the morning and my phone was still connected to my WiFi. Don't think this has ever happened. I am surprised that the app developer was able to fix the problem but Google has not been able to figure this out.

Its no solution. WIFI fixer just does a "Keep Alive Check" it polls the system asking if WIFI is connected and if it is not it will restart the service. I think this is how it works but I could be wrong.

I've been on 2.2.1 for about a week now and can confirm a significant improvement with the wifi staying connected after sleep (N1 and Mac address starts with 38).
Prior to this update I used "WIFI Connector" to quickly connect to my preconfigured networks. I still keep it on my home screen since the fix doesn't always work and sometimes need to switch between two active wifi networks.

Have the exact same problem with the new Samsung Galaxy tablet running Froyo 2.2. I called T-Mobile and all their techs know how to do is factory reset the unit or replace it (same as with any of their phones. Techs not very knowledgable). I've tried everything I know to resolve it but everytime I turn off the tablet and back on, I can't (re)connect to my WiFi. I noticed too that it is always scanning for networks even though I've set notifications to "off", AND though I've set sleep mode to "never" it appears to be sleeping anyway. Can't discern if it is a Samsung problem or T-Mobile messing with the unit's settings that has caused the problem. (they DID disable the voice capabilitiy afterall for all N. American customers on this thing....what else did they mess with?)
