Help Hero ExtUSB Repair

Hi all, new member here. A friend of mine has a HTC Hero (sprint) that has a broken ExtUSB port. The plastic piece that keeps the pins in place broke out and i've been looking for a replacement piece (i can solder very well) i haven't had to much luck but i found one from hong kong on ebay that is for a "Original HTC Hero G3". ebay item number 120629020292 would this work to repair his Hero? If not does anyone know where I can get one?

If you can solder well, why not cannibalize any mini USB device?

If I take a miniUSB port then the phone loses the capabilities that the ExtUSB provides. If I can't repair something to proper working abilities im not going to hack it together and half repair it.

Well, that made no sense until I googled extUSB (usb with audio).

It also took a moment to figure out that the ebay listing implies it's a hero GSM part, but the phone is a hero CDMA.

I don't know the answer myself, but did you try asking the seller?

Just had another thought, if they are different, maybe the seller can get you a cdma version?

I asked the seller and by the answer he gave me i can tell with out a doubt that he has no earthly idea about what he's selling, lol. It would seem like a USB port is the same as any other USB port right? I mean it's just a socket with some pins that all line up in a standard location (being USB is a "standard" of electronics and computers). So i guess the question would be is there any reason that a ExtUSB from a GSM wouldn't function the same on a CDMA if I replace JUST the port it self?

I believe that the adapter with plugs on it is the same for both Heros, so I suspect the ports would be the same functionally... Whether they are the same form factor internally, I don't know.

Ok, I will call my friend and tell him i found a piece that could work and see if he wants to try it, When/If it comes in I'll attach it and post back with results.
