Differences between AF and XDA

I wanted to take a moment to thank Rob and those in charge for creating a great Android community. From my experience, mostly in the Incredible forums here, most everyone is cordial and helpful here. I check AF several times per day for new posts and to try to contribute to others that have questions as well.

When I go to XDA it is ALWAYS to look for something. It is never for enjoyment. It's obvious to me that XDA is filled with developers. AF may have as many developers, but you would never know it. What I mean is the developers here are not as "put off" by "silly" questions as they seem to be at XDA. I'd venture to say that many of the developers at XDA are on AF as well, but it's the community here, set by Rob, enforced by the guides and mods that make it a much more enjoyable place to come and spend time.

I do have one question though, why does XDA put a limit on how many times you can use the search feature and AF doesn't. If you try to use search at XDA it will only allow you to do so once every 30 seconds or minute? It seems to me that that policy is counter productive. More than once I've been there looking for something and not gotten what I was looking for the 1st try and went back to try to search similar things differently worded only to see the message you must wait xx amount of seconds to use the search feature again. AF does not do that, and it's much easier to search and find what I need here than there. Thanks for reading my rant.

They're a different flavor of activity there, for the most part, than here; great info source on tech level, as you say.

The folks at XDA really excel at dissecting phones and doing awesome things with them. Here, we're more broad in our focus. We have numerous developers forums but we also provide for a somewhat different community. Both forums provide a good education to it's members and opportunities to learn more about Android phones.

Many forums establish limits on the use of the search function to restrict usage by bots. Some forums accomplish this by requiring the input of a key value.

+1 No doubt there. Compared to the minds there, I know nothing about my phone. It's an amazing place to go and read, but not really a place to go and ask. They know their stuff over there and that's for sure. When I'm there I feel like I'm taking a tour at a nuclear facility and as long as I stay in line and keep quiet and pass through everything is fine, but if I stop to ask how'd that work? You get the inevitable eye rolls, followed by a heavy sigh and then a lecture. lol OK maybe not that bad.

Two different beasts to say the least! I love going to XDA, and have been for years, I've even donated to the site; but I have a total of 10 posts. The information is always there, it's just a little work to find it, buried underneath everything else.

lol, it can be that bad sometimes, but understandable when the majority of the time the answer the person is looking for is in a few posts below theirs and is the thousandth time something has been asked. I've been there everyday since getting my phone and will continue to.

It's very different here as people are a bit more polite, but it's funny to see just how times people are referred over to XDA for a solution.

Think of XDA as a central repository of knowledge, guarded by university researchers. They do have Q&A sections where you are allowed to ask questions, but if you try to raise a question anywhere else, they are going to whack you back in line with a long stick.

AF is so much friendlier
I agree XDA is a dev but SOME people there seem to go there just to bash people...
I must admit I have only 3 posts there like, its too scary!
