Do You Text & Drive?

I tweeted about this the other day and got quite a few comments, (Filmed in Wales, UK) this video's been in the news in the USA, but they couldn't play it all... Check it out and you'll see why...

http://bit.ly/SMS_Drive

I definitely think it should be shown on TV, and in schools & colleges... If I used my mobile while driving, this would certainly put me off...

If you do, has watching this made you change your ways?

Definitely not and I'm against anyone that does. People should value their lives more.

I quite agree, I wish there were more police to catch the arrogant losers who think the law doesn't apply to them, and blatantly ignore it... Putting other people's lives at risk is unforgivable... A ban for life seems a just punishment... Shame it'll never happen...

fail... there is no law where I live against Texting. Now, wreckless driving yes.... but going by my flawless driving record... it seems I can handle it just fine.

;)

I will if I'm stopped at a light or construction. Not a stop sign because I don't want to hold up the people behind me. Used to text while I drove all the time, then I had kids. I still use my phone as an MP3 player and will switch tracks though.

^^ do that too... had a music player where the volume acted as a fast forward which was nice, but that was about 476 Roms ago... MXING does this? forgotted

ooohhh, i guess it's ok to mess with your phone in one instance, but not in another.... ok, please tell me which way is acceptable to you and your judgement. I shall be sure to assimilate with your way of thinking once I become clear which use of my phone is acceptable and which one is not.

It's not illegal everywhere, just so you know. And yeah, I text once in a while when I'm driving.

When did I say that is what you should do? I only stated what I do.

I read somewhere that according to the laws in LA you can play games on your phone while driving (I wouldn't suggest that though)

I do not because it's a major distraction that has led to many accidents and deaths. I also don't eat while driving because that is also another major distraction. You move your concentration from the road to texting. It's kind of like talking on the phone, you may be looking at the road, but your mind is elsewhere and not focused on driving. There was a whole thing on Larry King Live about it. I wish I could see it again. They brought on people who had loved ones killed because they were either texting while driving or were victims of someone who was.

Please be safe!

I didn't eat while I drove all that much until I needed to drive 40 minutes to an internship everyday one summer a few years ago. I'd get teh hunger while driving and would have to eat while I drove so I could get home at a decent time

I know a campaign has started where I live, New Jersey, to outlaw texting while driving. I believe NJ was one of the first states to require drivers to talk on cell phones with hands free devices but I still see plenty of people doing it. A handful of American cities have banned the practice of texting while driving and I think it's a good thing.

I used to do it but only while stopped at lights or in traffic. A high school junior in NJ has started a campaign called "X the TXT" to get fellow students, teachers and administrators at his school to pledge not doing it. I haven't texted while driving since I read the article.

Also, it's negligent to assume that you're perfectly fine to text and drive and that since it hasn't happened in the past that it wont happen in the future. How many seconds do you take off the road to see what you're texting? 2-3 seconds off the road can lead to 2-3 seconds delayed reaction time, which can be the difference between life and death.

Like people say... it's not a matter of IF you'll get into a car accident... it's the matter of WHEN you'll get into a car accident. This encompasses both you being the cause and other people doing something stupid. Someone could do something stupid or something could pop out onto the road while you're looking at your phone to send a text that you place higher than focusing on driving.

Oh, and there are much worse things than texting that I see people do all the time that are not illegal like texting is.

-Women putting on makeup
-People reading books and newspapers
-People eating with both hands and driving with their knees

Those are just to name a few of the things I have personally seen people doing just in the last month

Those all should be illegal activities. I've never seen anyone driving with their knees while eating but that's a disaster waiting to happen.
