i have a friend with a samsung transform, and helped him hard reset it. it's true that after a hard reset (i think that's what it's called because it's like reactivating the phone) the first thing is it requires you to pick an ID pack. but, there's an "Empty" pack, so no app is downloaded or installed, no wallpaper, just plain old vanilla android home screens.
unfortunately, one of the soft button next to the app drawer is hard coded for Sprint ID (other side is the phone button), which allows you to switch to a different ID (yes, similar to sense's saved profiles) or download a different ID pack.
each ID pack is a download of bundled apps and widgets related to subject of interest. as far as i can tell, the apps can be uninstalled (not sure about the widgets). supposedly, you can create and customize your own ID bundle (like sense profile).
similar to sense, i didn't like it because it takes too long to switch between IDs (or profiles). initial download of an ID pack is obviously slow.
i think it's a good idea for people new to android. it gives them an idea of how customizable and fun android can be without the initial learning curve (which is part of the fun for me). once people become familiar with it, they won't need to download ID packs. i don't like it though that they forced one of the button on the home screen dedicated to Sprint ID.
to be honest, searching for the right apps is kind of a pain, so the bundling of apps is not a bad idea at all.
