Thought I would make a new thread since this is a new case for our phones.

I finally got my case this morning after ordering it a week ago. I don't really know where to start so I will just take it in stages.

1. Outer Silicone
This stuff is thick. Trident designed extra thick corners into it to protect from drops. I would guess that in the top corners it is around a quarter of an inch thick. The bottom corners are just slightly thinner but still really thick. The silicone secures itself on the plastic case in ridges that are around the screen and the back of the case and on two posts below the screen. In other words, its not going to move or fall off EVER.

The buttons are very easy to press and, in my opinion, actually feel better to press through the silicone than when the phone is naked. The silicone also barely attracts lint. My Otterbox defender on my iPod touch attracts lint worse than this case. And of course all the ports on the phone are covered.

2. Inner Hard Case
This is a very tough case by itself. It is also pretty hard to open. If I counted correctly, there are 8 places that it snaps together. 8. You open it by placing your thumbs in the slot for the volume rocker and pull it apart. I have pryed it open probably 5 times now and my fingers hurt thats how good this thing snaps shut.

It is made out of some pretty sturdy plastic. The best part about that case is that the back section of this part of the case has been rubberized. It feels just like the stock battery cover on the phone. This is a really nice touch by Trident. Unlike the Defender, the phone DOES NOT MOVE AROUND AT ALL. The combination of a tight fitting case and the rubberized back really hold the phone tight.

3. Screen Protectors and Dust guards
The screen protectors are really good. I don't even notice the one on the screen when the case is on. It even sits right on top on the screen. It is recessed down far enough that it doesn't sit off of the top of the screen like the Defender's protector does. My only complaint is that it appears I already have small scratches in mine. And I have hardly done anything with the case.

The cover for the camera did not come installed on my Kraken. The case came with a cover, just not installed. Which brings me to the camera. It is now fully recessed into the case so no more worring about messing up the lense.

The earpiece and rear speaker holes are protected with pieces of white cloth. Just a small square covering each hole in the case. Not really all that special.

And it appears that we have avoided the proximity censor issues that the Trident Cyclops case for the EVO had. I made a call and the censor worked just fine.

Conclusion
This is a really good case. The plastic it is made of is some tough stuff. Much tougher than the plastic my Defender on my iPod is made of. The silicone is great and adds a some really great shock absorbtion. But there is one glaring issue with this case. If you have large fingers, good luck opening the notifications pull down. The case is really tight to the top of the screen and makes it really hard to open it. I have to hold the phone upside down just so I can touch high enough on the screen so it will open. But this and the screen protector are the only issues I have found so far.

The only other thing that may be an annoyance to some people would be that this case adds quite a lot of bulk to the phone. Both in thickness and weight. The phone is definately heavier with the case on. But I did not buy insurance so this is a trade off I am willing to make. One last thing, I find that my phone is much easier to hold. The added thickness really helps.

I would recommend people who aren't happy with the Defender or people who need a case look into this one. To me, it definately feels sturdier than an Otterbox case. But the only thing is it really bulks up the phone.

Sidenote: I'm going to add some pics of the case in a little bit. I'm not going to have any pics of the phone in the case though. My only camera is my phone.

Ok. Here are the pics. Its easier to link them to photobucket than to imbed.

Trident Kraken pictures by incrediblex4 - Photobucket

This 1st one is of the accessories that come with the case. Useless instruction book. A headphone jack extender because the headphone jack is recessed far into the case, and the cover for the camera.

The 2nd is of the front and back sections of the hard case. This is the inside of the case where the phone goes. You can see the cloth covering the speakers.

The 3rd is of the outside of the front and back sections. You can see the posts at the bottom of the screen and the ridge around the screen where the silicone locks into.

The 4th pic is of the silicone off of the case.

The 5th pic is if the case put together. This is the front of the case.

The 6th pic is of the back of the case when it is put together.

Thanks for the review / pics. It's very informative. I believe the bumpers on the corners are a deal breaker for me. I wish that Otterbox had put this kind of care into their defender. My iPhone Defender had this level of care put into it, but the Incredible isn't close :-(
Otterbox is trying to resolve my issues. They watched my video showing the rattling. Their development team pulled cases from the inventory and CND. When asked how to resolve it, I asked for a tested case. I'm willing to send mine back in.

Nice review.
The Kraken looks a bit strange, but I need max protect.
Thanks. If you need maximum protection this case will certanly bring it. It makes the Defender I have on my iPod touch feel wimpy.

Thanks. I'm glad Otterbox is working with its customers. I just needed a case and after reading everything about the Incredible's Defender, the Kraken came out at the perfect time. I wish Otterbox used as tough materials as the Kraken is made of. I took the Defender, which is broken by the way, on my ipod apart and it feels cheap compared to the Kraken. Trident used much tougher plastics and tougher silicone in the Kraken. And the Kraken's screen protector blows Otterbox's out of the water. It is so much better.

Thought I would post again after a day of using it. I really like this case. It makes the phone SSSOOO much easier to hold. I have noticed another thing Trident did with the bottom corners. They made it so the corner fits into your hand. The way the corner is curved it fits into your hand very well when you hold the phone with one hand. And the screen protector is awesome. I don't even notice its there.

I have not heard back from Trident about the issue with accessing the notifications. I e-mailed them yesterday afternoon hoping to hear back before the end of business yesterday, but did not. So it will be Monday at the earliest before I hear from them. They will probably just say there is nothing they can do.

One thing I forgot to add in the initial review is about the trackball. It is recessed down in the case, but since it is so sensitive this doesn't effect how it works at all. I have no problems scrolling from the far left home screen all the way to the right screen in one motion.

I just came back in here to ask you about the trackball, & you were all over it already.
Well played sir!
