Root I want to unroot in order to start from scratch... just want some tips...

I've been having some strange problem with Car Home not showing up in my menu after installation. I have reinstalled the Nonsensikal ROM and wiped and Delvik wiped but for some reason the Car Home cannot be run. It only gives me the option of uninstalling with a grayed out "open" option. So, I figured I would start from scratch, clean out the phone's files, and start anew. What's the best way to go about this? (I still like the Nonsensikal ROM and plan on using this ROM.)

There are tons of files on my phone and I would like to clean all of that data off. I don't want any backup files or anything left on the phone. I want to start with a clean phone so that I can reinstall Nonsensikal ROM. Any suggestions?

Although I don't think you need to un-root, if you really (really) want to, here's your best option:

[ROM][10/20/2010]FlashBack21 v1 -Return to Factory Stock - UPDATED - xda-developers

Un-rooting is, I believe, unlikely to reset things...unless you are looking to make sure that your app will work on stock Eris Android 2.1 that is...

You could try flashing a different ROM such as xtrROM or xtrSense and see if you are still having troubles (making sure that you wipe both 'data/factory reset' AND 'Dalvik-cache').

This should be pretty easy / painless to do if you just take a Nandroid backup of your current setup, you can switch back to it and un-root should you change your mind.

Well, I cant seem to see why the Car Home app doesnt work correctly with the Nonsensikal ROM even after running the FlashBack 21. Others have said that it works. I'm not sure why it doesnt work on mine.

Also, how come I can't get rid of all of these other folders that are still on my phone? It just seems that I have installed several ROMs on my phone and each time I seem to increase the number of these other files and folders that appear on my device. I thought the Full Wipe and Delvik got rid of all of those files. It doesnt seem to be so. My phone still has lots of other folders on it from previous ROM installations.

Although I don't think you need to un-root,

I agree completely with this. Unrooting and re-rooting will just be busy-work. Reinstalling Nonsensikal from scratch (i.e., wipe data, flash it from recovery, and reinstall your apps) will do the same exact thing without the waste of time of unrooting and re-rooting.

However, if you (heyjoojoo, I mean) read through SikYou's Nonsensikal thread on xda-developer's, you'll find that you need to download and flash from recovery a google apps package in order to get the Car Home launcher (which puts the icon in the app drawer).

You must be talking about the files and folders on your /sdcard.

The wipes that you do in custom recovery don't touch the /sdcard.

Various apps will create folders on/in there to store their work product. For example, the camera will store the photos you've taken in the /sdcard/DCIM directory structure.

You could backup the contents of your /sdcard and then carefully and judiciously delete the directories that relate to apps that have uninstalled and no longer use. Just make sure you know what you are deleting (you might have to navigate the contents to figure it out).

Ah hah. Thanks for that posting that. I have fixed the problem and have installed the apps mentioned - thanks for the link.
