Simplify the Droid 2?

I have just received my D2-G this evening. I upgraded from my HTC Droid Eris and man is it an upgrade! I used appbrain to move all of my apps and stuff and the D2-G is fast as heck compared to the Eris.

My only problem is that I am getting overwhelmed by all of the CRAP that comes on the phone. I know it has more to offer than my previous but GEEZE is moto and vzw trying to kill me with all of this stuff on the phone?

So, I have checked out the posts over the past couple of days on the D2 and I am guessing that there isn't much difference between the D2 and the D2-G aside from the obvious. Now I am just wanting to simplify the phone and get it down to the goods and avoid the bads. I was hoping out the gate to be able to watch netflix on the phone but that doesn't seem to be the case at all (I travel a lot and I also sit and wait a lot). So, maybe someone can point me in the right direction to explain all that this new beast can do and what I need not worry about (as a simple guy who isn't trying to OC the phone and take over the world).

short of rooting the best youll be able to do is pull the stock widgets and just ignore the icons in the app drawer.

I here ya there. Droid 2 was my first droid and I felt the same way. I rooted which isn't that hard then flashed the Fission ROM and it runs smoother and is blurless. Much better phone now after having stock for 2 months.

Launcher Pro can be configured to hide unneeded apps in the app drawer, if you've decided that rooting and removing them is not for you.
