k9 Email check frequency settings help

Hi, could anyone tell me if there is a way to set k9 email to only check my server once an hour for email? I thought I set the polling option to once an hour, but as soon as I get email on my server it shows up on my phone. I don't want that, I only want it to check once an hour to save my battery and network. My email server is Secure IMAP.
K9 is the only email app that works for me, the stock HTC client on my g2 FC's trying to retrieve mail because I created the SSL certs on my server myself (I only have 5 users).

So, if there are settings to change it to check only once an hour could you tell me which ones to change? Nothing I seemed to do made a difference and emails showed up almost instantly.

IMAP doesn't poll per se, mail is pushed to your phone by the server. Most people love having the email show up instantly. Push email uses very little battery, so you needn't worry in that regard.

Perhaps your ISP allows POP3 access to the mail server; POP3 polls the server at fixed intervals, so you can set K-9 to poll every hour (or other time intervals).

As jimdroid already said, IMAP accounts receive emails in realtime as the server pushes the messages to the phone. I believe K9 sets up Gmail accounts as IMAP account by default. If you don't like this, you could setup your Gmail account in K9 to be a POP3 account, and then set the "Folder Poll Frequency" to "Every Hour". Frankly, I don't see an advantage ... but it's up to you.

Ok, i'm going to try it for a couple of days and see how it does with my battery. It sounds like it wont really affect anything since it's basically "listening" for a update from my server, while the stock HTC client manually sends a checkin notice every hour (as it's set).
I run my own email server, and I have pop3/pop3s disabled (I only use ssl imap)

From what you guys say, battery usage should be negligible.

I do appreciate your help and shake both of your hands for taking the time to answer my questions.

Also, do you guys know if there are any k9 email widgets that are like the stock htc ones? That just show a list of emails you can press on?

I don't know of any k9 widgets. You can put a shortcut to each account on the desktop if you want; if you have multiple accounts, that's a good way to go right to the account you want from the desktop.

If you're worried about battery usage there are threads and guides out there on finding out what's eating your battery and addressing battery hogs. Apps like Watchdog can help you as well.

One advantage of push over polling is that your device doesn't have to waste power to check in with the server. Email is delivered as it arrives. Polling the server when there isn't any new email results in wasted battery power.

CPU use total for background apps - 1.5%... seems pretty unacceptable to me. And that's beforek9mail 1.4% backgroubded without service

Ok, I just read all of this and I'm realize, that I have receiving push mail, and all of my accounts are set to POLL EVERY HOUR.
Can I turned it off all of them from polling ?

Is it for pushing some seetings in android? I beleive that I've seen that
