Mail App password

I am new to Android. I set up Mail with my Hotmail Account, entering my user name and password. In one 'how to' article it mentioned 'tick box' to require password use. I saw no option to force the app to ask for the password when I open it. It just displays all my Inbox. I think this is appalling.
Means anyone can see my e-mails if I lose or lend the phone. Is there way to force the app to ask for for a password before displaying the inbox..or a different way to manage the account? Help suggestions appreciated

Do you not have a screen lock, password/pattern before you can even access the phone? That's how I reassure myself.

Welcome to the forums, johnforu.

I'd suggest doing a search for an app in Market under something such as "email security," or perhaps, "secure inbox," etc.

IIRC there are apps to lock apps. I'd suggest securing the entire device though that doesn't do anything for lending the device to others. I just don't lend mine.
