Froyo is the worst thing ive ever seen help

Personally from what i've experienced, I wouldn't upgrade to Froyo and wish there was a way I could go back. Not that i'm having any particular problems, but overall 2.1 was much smoother and faster. Maybe once the devs cook up some nice ROMs, my feelings will change, but right now I preferred my phone they way it was.

Original poster, do a factory reset!

Others, you cant ecpect a stock rom from lg/verizon to be on par with what our devs cook up. Be patient and things will get better. Lets have a little less complaining about froyo threads. Maybe stickie one so this section isnt pure spam? Im running rooted froyo with 0 problems.

I'm not complaining. :) Just made up my mind I'm not updating until the wonderful devs come up with wonderful roms.

ya they where no help anybody have any luck with root yet?

Just about everyone that has gone to IRC and asked specific questions regarding rooting Froyo has successfully completed the process. Have you tried the guide? Have you pm'ed anyone? I can't count on my fingers and toes all the people that have came out of IRC with rooted Froyo...

If you want rooted FroYo, you absolutely have to use the guide posted here: http://androidforums.com/ally-all-things-root/263285-guide-froyo-2-2-1-root-users.html

There is no other way to get your phone rooted with 2.2 at this time if you have already updated it.

If you need help, go back to IRC, politely pose your question and then be patient as there are a lot of folks trying to get help at the moment. I would specifically look for Dots, Death2All110 (D2A something in IRC), Sora1995 or Afteraffect.

IRC can be a pain because there are so many trollers there talking trash. Try to get someone engaged in a private chat to work with you. And please be courteous and respectful. People with a 'tude usually end up being ignored.

Also, please read everything on rooting with FroYo and make some effort to take it as far as you can before you ask for help. It's really frustrating to offer to help someone and then find they haven't done the first thing to get ready to be helped. Download the necessary files, back up your data to your PC, have your phone charged and ready, and allow sufficient time to be helped. (I once had someone ask me to help him and 3 minutes into it, he wanted to know if we were almost done because he wanted to go play PS3. GRRR!!)

Good luck on your quest. I think the end results more than justify the effort.

These posts surprise me as well. I was rooted and running punisher, which I really like, and I updated to froyo before they found the root because it was telling me every 15 minutes that I had an update. I love it! The only thing I got a custom ROM for was for the A2SD, and now that I have it with froyo, I'm good to go. I'll pay attention to the devs for custom froyo ROMs, but as fast and smooth as froyo is, I'm not seeing a reason to root right now. It's like having a brand new phone! Sorry for all of the problems everyone else is having.

2.2 is way better on these phones than 2.1. If youre having force closes and market issues and everything else, obviously something isnt working correctly. You couldnt possibly think that was what LG intended, so its not really fair or helpful to people pondering the switch to represent the upgrade that way. This sort of goes back to the people who post the 'Punisher ruined my phone' type of threads when in reality they ruined their phone making a mistake trying to install punisher. If you go to IRC and be patient, calm, and respectful that these are people willing to give their time and knowledge to you for free, you will get help.

Also, if you're trying to root your phone with no success and you have 2.2 already installed, i can almost assure you that is the source of the problem.

Hello.

I've removed posts and I've cleaned up a few - please note my comments in why I edited.

Our policies are in the links in my sig, but I can sum them up for you in two simple statements:

  • Attack issues and not each other
  • Be polite

I ought to have given Disrepectful Posting infractions in a number of cases. I didn't and instead, it's going to go like this:

Further outbreaks will result in the higher infraction for failure to heed a mod's warning.

Im so glad i learnt about ROM's when i did =] i was so excited for froyo, and i woke up every morning waiting for the day...and i flashed V4 the day before it came out, and dont regret it, i love it. Hopefully some really great ROM's will come out for froyo and take away a big burden from sum people's problems with froyo...also just to ask real quick, if i used my backup i made right before i flashed v4 of the stock 2.1, will the update for froyo pop up? or will i have to search and install it myself?

EarlyMon - thanks for your intervention and edits. I apologize if my comments made anyone feel attacked. My point is that, like everything in Life, FroYo is obviously not for everyone. If it's not working out for someone, please follow up with a post describing the problem so it can be addressed, or go into IRC and get some help. If you just want to go back to Android 2.1 Stock and root again, that can be accomplished too. Just complaining without making an effort to get your problems resolved does no one any good and unfairly discredits reputable software and the hard work of our devs.

While frustrating to some, it's ok to complain about Froyo and do nothing at this time.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, and sometimes need their voice to be heard.

So long as such posts and any replies are made in strict accordance with the site policies, conveniently condensed above, we have no issues.

If the Froyo in question is from an independent dev, then it's better to not complain publicly that it's no good - it's better to go thru the dev's feedback policy and provide a breakdown of your issues found - politely and without invective - and then perhaps choose a rom better suited to your needs.

Please distinguish and note well: Froyo comes from Google, Froyo roms often come from independent devs.

If Froyo itself and not the rom is at issue, then sharing frustrations with friends or reporting to Google is more appropriate than reporting to devs - but they may consider enhancements, depending upon their issues and workloads.

If you find an individual on either side of this matter taking a position that is simply disagreeable to you, agree to disagree by adding them to your ignore list (yes - we have that as a tool, see your User CP page, link at upper left of this page).

Anyone breaking the rules can be shown to us via the !Report button.

Try to get along and remember your worst enemy today is often your best friend tomorrow.

The independent devs tend to be your best friends, even if something didn't work out for you.
