Getting the Screen to Come Back on in the Dark

Forgive me if someone else has asked this, but I searched the forum and couldn't find an answer.

I understand that the proximity/light sensor turns off the screen when the Eris is next to your ear to prevent "face dailing", etc. And, I understand the screen comes back on when the sensor senses light. Ok, that works fine.

BUT, what do you do if you are using the phone in the dark? When I pull the phone away, the screen will not come back on because it does not sense light. For example, trying to delete a voicemail if you're using the phone in the dark. I've tried every button to re-activate the screen, and the only one that will work is the "End" key. And that obviously ends the call.

Any work arounds/suggestions?

Thanks.

DIGITALph,

I was unable to reproduce the effect you describe in an extremely dark room - my screen always re-illuminated after I pulled the phone away from my ear.

This seemed to be the case even if I was on a voice call which was longer than the screen timeout interval (2 minutes). I do not have auto backlight disabled (Settings -> Sound & display -> Disable auto backlight); don't know if that should make a difference.

In any event, note that as a result of the Dec 11th OTA update, the behavior of the End button (when on a call) changed. Before the OTA update, pressing the End button would immediately terminate a call; afterward the OTA, the first press would bring the screen out of sleep mode, and the second press will terminate the call... so long as the screen is sleeping!

I'm not sure that this helps you, though, for the scenario you describe - you can't tell the difference between "screen sleeping" and "incorrectly blanked".

argh.

OMG! Now I really feel old! I am old enough to be your mother! I have 5 children:
28 girl
27 boy
26 girl
boy would have been 25
boy fixing to be 20

And for everyone that says I was very busy...I have an excuse...there wasn't anything good on Johnny Carson those nights!! LMAO!! :D

But you're still a (moons) babe, and that's what counts! :)
