Hi all.

I recently moved to TELUS because of the HTC Desire HD and I didnt get the Call Display hoping I can get it for free with an app. Turns out, I cant and its uberly hard not to have a call display. So it got me thinking and found that we save almost $300 for your whole contract if you change your plan.

Before:
Voice/data plan available to Telus right now. Its $49.99/mo (includes 350 daytime mins, unlimited text, unlimited calling after 6pm&weekends, 500mb data, voicemail, call waiting, conference all), with Taxes and all, its gonna be around $56. (pricing shouldnt be that far for other cities/provinces)

NOW:
Unlimited Voice - unlimited Local Calling, voicemail, call waiting, conference call for $30
Data Lite Package 20 - unlimited message,picture,video, Caller ID, 100 MB data for $20

Since the net price is still $50, i am still gonna be paying the same fee, with the caller ID. YAY! BUT, i am losing 400 MB of data which for myself, I really dont need. I usually connect wifi. If I HAVE to go online, I can just run to my nearest mall/starbucks/safeway if i am outside.

Kinda a hassle if youre running close to your 100MB limit, but I dont see myself doing that more often. What I see is havin that $300 extra after this contract expires.

It got me excited switching from Rogers (Previous Bill $70) WHAT A RIP OFF! HAHA!

Yes. I believe its a Data plan for $40. But not all carriers offer it.

Cool, and is it truly unlimited on any of them? Or is there a cap like down here in the states where they bill you for unlimited and then cap it at 5 gigs or something?

its really hard to tell. i think we both have the same definition of unlimited when it comes to data plan - limited. heheh!

According to MTS, one of the carrier here, they have unlimited data and no cap really. Its a case-2-case basis on how they would flag an account as "excessive" use and may suspend your account. (like 10gb/mo is what they classify as excessive)

But they guaranteed no extra charges if you go over since its an "unlimited" plan. So I guess its alot better in some ways, but again, the definition of unlimited being "no restriction" still does not match.

I have the $40 (with taxes around 45) plan: includes 100 daytime mins, unlimited text, unlimited calling after 6pm&weekends, 100mb data, voicemail, call waiting, conference all. also 10 numbers I can unlimited call and text within canada. I do not have Caller ID. But I only pay that much. I do not use that much data, since everywhere I go I have WiFi.

I have the data flex 55+ which includes 200 day time minutes, 10 numbers unlimited in Canada, unlimited text/video picture msg's, unlimited local calling after 6pm and 1gb of data the can flex to 5gb. I added caller ID for 8$ and device protection for 7$. 70$/m providing I don't go over the 1gb of data if I do its 20$ from 1-2gb, and from 2-5gb is another 20$ Which I never get to because I use wi-fi for any heavy usage.

Great post! Unfortunately I use more than 100MB the odd month here and there (sometimes over 200). And since Canadian carriers usually charge an arm and legs per megabyte over, it would be too risky. But I really hate not having caller ID. I don't know why just ONE carrier doesn't offer it for FREE. Everyone would jump to them. It costs the carrier NOTHING to let the number come through. It already KNOWS the number - they just purposely block it from you unless you pay to see it. Nazis.

In CAnada!? GAWD NO. We've never had unlimited data when it comes to data as far as I know. Heck we pay like $100 for 5GB on Telus.

I am on the same plan. I pay about 77 Dollars after all is said and done. I came from Bell, which was charging me $65 for 500 daytime minutes, unlimited weekends and after 6 with 250 texts...no data.

Needless to say I got a much better phone coming to Telus, better plan, better service and I don't have to deal with their bullshit any longer. The $12 was justified. And the 10 free numbers works great for me I really only talk to about that many people on a regular basis.

I also have no experience any dropped calls from Telus. They have been just as reliable as my Bell connection in Montreal/Ottawa.

its the sim cards u buy at grocerystores . i pay 35 a mounth free incomeing. callerdisplaye, free after 7 and weekends. 150 daytime mins. free texting and picture text. 10$ more for 100mb.

this is pay as you go also. so no risk. lol if i go over it will run out of date n haning masive bill. pay as u go way better

I started off on Bell years ago, switched to Rogers for a few years, now I'm on Telus and have been for about 3 years. I go to whoever has the phone I want. But now I've got a phone which works on all networks, although I'll probably just stick with Telus.

I thought Telus/Bell made their network so that their phones couldn't go over to Rogers?

Their networks operate on different frequencies, but if you have a phone that operates on them, you're fine. The Galaxy S2 has all the freqs of Bell and Rogers.

Ok I am with Telus and they have crap phones when my upgrade comes up in a few months so might try to craigslist one and put it on their network.

Unlimited data can be found at Videotron or WIND Mobile I think, Telus got rid of unlimited data over 2 years ago but there are still people with grandfathered unlimited plans.

I could care less about caller ID, I don't talk on the cell as often as I text, but I got a notice from Telus about 3 months free caller ID after ignoring about 200 messages advertising caller ID for $8/mo from them, Telus is the type of company that wants to squeeze every penny out of their customers so they spam the caller ID on those that don't have it with their plan.
