I have recently been searching around to see if an official release of android 2.2 (froyo) will come to the orange San Francisco. ZTE has said the smartphone will be upgradeable to Android 2.2 on the ZTE blade, so I wondered if the update will come to the Orange San Francisco as well. Also apparently the new upgrade will come in a few weeks. I have found other multiple sites confirming an update.

I then did some research to see if it was coming to the orange San Francisco not just the ZTE blade, and have found no answer. But I came across some new photos of the blade on CNET, the device is a orange San Francisco in white, original version and it appears to be running android 2.2. Taken at the MWC 2011.

On another image from CNET on the same phone it says "The Blade has a 3.5-inch touch screen, that's pretty sharp and clear. Unfortunately, it only runs Android 2.1, though ZTE has said the smartphone will be upgradeable to Android 2.2."

So I am guessing an official Orange San Francisco update will come in the near future. bringing android 2.2 froyo.

UPDATE:

Orange have released there may be an froyo 2.2 update sometime this year.

That's what I heard that orange wasn't going to bring it to the ZTE blade. But I have seen a number of reports suggesting they will recently , also the pictures from CNET had the San Francisco with 2.2 integrated at the MWC 2011. I think this would be great for orange to do, as it's an official update.

I contacted orange, about an official future update for the orange San Francisco/ZTE Blade, here is what they have said.

An update is not available at this stage but an update should hopefully come in the near future. It takes longer to get updates out due to orange putting on custom software, but they will try to get an update out.

So maybe an official update is on it's way for the future!

i was worried about doing the custom rom install. i also was going to wait for the official to come out. but i decided to go for it today. i backed up my old orange rom. then i tried a few customs. i didnt like it at first so i re-installed the backup and it was like i hadnt even touched the phone.

now i have the flb 2.2 installed and its great. the camcorder now records in vga and it isnt to bad. better than the 2.1.

i think it is worth giving it a go but if your not sure then just leave it for now.:)

The trouble is, I am not very advanced on this, and do not know how to back up and install ROM's. That's why I think it would be easier to wait for the official as I could end up messing the whole phone up.

seriously, its so easy, you will be laughing :)
the Blade isn't locked down like HTC/SE/Moto Androids which makes things nice and simple ;)
