Just got my Ascend, Now I need some help! pleaseee

I just got my Ascend a couple days ago and I need some help.
I'm not quite sure how to work it, This is my first ever android phone.

what are some good apps to get?
I'm thinking of upgrading it, like the roms and the software to make it run a little faster.
My other question is how do I change the weather clock's time? I've tried and its an hour behind. Also how can I change the normal time as well..its a few minutes off.
Is there anything I should know about this phone?
&& how do I change the swype keyboard to just the normal one?

&& this is a question about my profile, how do I change my photo..to like get one on there?

About your photo, go to user cp and click on the edit avatar tab, this give you the pic below your name, for the photo in your profile pick the edit profile picture tab. To change the swype, long press on a text field and choose imput method and choose the other keyboard. Don't know about your weather clock because i don't know which one you have. Your normal time is set to automatic, what are you basing the idea of it being a few minutes off? There are alot of threads about best apps, use the search bar.

Thank you.
I just found out how to switch the keyboard.
The weather clock is in the Huawei widgets, I put the clock onto my homepage, It has the time then once I set my city it changes to an hour behind.
So, I'm not sure how to change the time to what its supposed to be. It has a dropdown box and above it it says Timezone, and it says get from network?
I tried to click on it and it doesn't drop down or anything..Do I need to do something with my network?

Yea, I noticed it kills your battery. I didn't know if I needed it to be running all the time.

Which rom should I put on the phone? I herd the cm7 or cm6 are good. My phone is orginally stock right now. I'm not sure what to do though if and when I do upgrade it.

I know I will be in the minority for saying this but I think your best course of action is NOT to flash a different ROM. The stock ROM will run plenty fast if you root your phone and install Link2SD. The app allows you to move your apps to the SD card like you could do under 2.2. Ever since I started running it, my phone is a lot faster with almost no lag whatsoever. This is just my opinion.

My advice is to keep your phone stock for now. Play around with it for awhile, learn it inside and out. While you are doing that, READ. Study up on rooting (even though its super easy on this phone, some people still have problems because they don't know what they are doing first. Remember-you can't be OVER prepared). Then when you are confident with that, go ahead and root it (if you decide you want to), get rid of some bloatware, get some root apps that make your phone work better like Droid Wall, Ad Free, look around for other app suggestions, etc. While you are doing this, keep reading up on the different ROMs. Decide which one is right for you, then study up on how to install it. Read the whole threads. See what problems other people are running into, and how they solve them. Then you will be prepared and not panic if the same thing happens to you. When you feel confident with that, then AND ONLY THEN should you atttempt flashing a new ROM. (again, only if you want to). If you still run into trouble, people here can help you through it, but you will save yourself a lot of headaches by doing your homework first. Anyway, glad you finally got your Ascend, and I hope you enjoy it! Welcome to our dysfunctional family lol!

Congratulations on getting the Ascend. I think you made a good choice. Did you get the regular version or the TapOut.

I agree with Gmash. Since this is your first Android leave it stock for a little while and play around with it and do some reading. I waited 2 weeks to root the phone and then another month before I installed Icarus. Since then I've flashed to CM6 and CM7. All 3 are good roms and each have their pros and cons. Read up on all of them, both the threads here and their respeitve wiki pages. If you bought the TapOut you probably won't want to switch to Icarus but it does have some good points.

Another reason for staying stock for a little while is that way you have a good understanding of it and what you want out of it before you decide on which ROM you want to go to.

One thing that you should do right now to save your battery life is turn off GPS, Wi-fi, and bluetooth unless you are using them. That will save your battery alot.

Enjoy your Ascend and Welcome to the Forum.

I will definetly leave it at stock right now and get a feel of the phone, which I am just figuring out the different things on it.
I'm starting to do some research on the different roms, right now I am looking at CM6. I herd its a pretty good rom, but I'm still reading about it.
I love the phone, even though it lags a little bit here and there but I can deal with that.
But I'm still figuring out the phone, I'm about to look at the manual and see what else I can find out about it.

But thank you, you guys! I really appriecate the help and everything! :)
