First scratch on screen

So my N1 has suffered its first scratch. It is a small scratch that runs in a slight curve over the menu screen. The thing is, I cannot imagine how it even happened since my phone has only been in my pocket without any keys or anything, and I have never dropped it. Personally I don't really care, I am the type that just uses a phone, and whatever it looks like, it looks like, I very very rarely ever resell a phone. But I also just wanted to let the worriers know that this screen will scratch, and it will scratch with seemingly little effort. I have a hard time believing those scratch test videos now. The thing is, I don't know if this is isolated to the black area around the viewing surface, but I highly doubt it, since it is all covered in the same sheet of glass.

I don't plan to put a screen protector or case on or anything, but I am a bit disappointed in the scratch resistance of this screen, seems less than my 2giphone, which had to get ground in a back pocket with keys to get a scratch.

Here's hoping my inch thick oily fingerprints help protect it in some way ;o) sorry to hear it's scratched, even if you're not too bothered it's still a little disappointing when a new gadget gets a dink. Though at least it's over with now, I'm sort of waiting for it to happen so I stop treating it with kid gloves.

Yeah me too. I decided today that I'm going to use it without the sleeve and any screen protector. I'll sell it on at some point but I'm not going to worry about how it looks. It's detrimental to the experience when you are constantly cleaning and being super super careful. i wouldn't intentionally scratch but it'll inevitably happen at some point.

i just looked at the 2g iphone screen I mentioned, which my wife is now using, and throws in her purse with keys and all other stuff with general disregard, and there is nothing but the original scratch I mentioned.

I think what disappoints me is that given this phone is a "flagship device", I would expect that it would at least have equivalent technology to the droid (gorilla glass), but it seems not. I don't want to get too down on the device or anything, but it kinda confirms what I always felt toward HTC. That being that they often pump out phones with awesome specs and software, but that their hardware is where they seem to cut costs. Which is in contrast to a company like motorola who seems to over-engineer their phones.

Like I said, not a big deal, but I wanted to make aware the people who will freak out if this happens, that they should probably use something to protect their screen.

For what it's worth, I just installed a skin from bestskinsever.com and it is great. Feels just like the original screen, absolutely no orange peel or ripple whatsoever. I got the whole body kit and the fitment is top notch.

There aren't that many devices using GG to begin with. Had Motorola not already had a previous relationship with GG (used on the RAZR), it might not have even showed up on the DROID. But since they used it previously, it would be a no-brainer to include it on the DROID. Be that as it may, the DROID isn't scratch resistant... the screen will still get micro-scratches. It's not diamond after all!
