Root [BETA]Cyanogen!! Landed!!! :) Go get it![Updated 7/12/2011]

I don't think there has been a substantial fix since nightly #7.

It's pretty good. Surprisingly good. I have slightly more battery drain than stock GB - which, for me, had excellent battery life. This has merely "very good" battery life.

I get the occasional spontaneous reboot, maybe once a day. I tried turning off Tasker to see if that was causing it. I'll post an update maybe tomorrow if I still haven't had a reboot, but it's been 24 hours with no reboot so... we'll see.

LightFlow does not work, which is a major bummer for me. I love that app. The author has indicated he has a major release in the works so we'll see if that fixes it.

The responsiveness of the system is astounding. It makes lots of tasks easier. Cursor placement, for instance - you don't realize how much even tiny slowdowns affect precise movement.

Nope. I have flashed all of the nightlys and am now on 11. I haven't seen any major changes. I wonder if the things that aren't working to this point are going to take some intensive coding to get working correctly. Nevertheless, I think I will be on Cyanogen to say. It is smooth, customisable, and runs great. There are still the few known issues, but they are not deal-breakers at this point. However, I do miss a few things about .596 (the much maligned bright LEDs for one.)

Did you try using Cyanogenmod settings to customise your LEDs instead of Lightflow? I turned my MMS blue and my K-9 email red from there.

I posted this in my other topic, but I might get a faster response here:

Ok so I guess I messed up royally...

After applying the GingiBlur Blue theme to .596, I decided that I wanted to try out CM7. I followed the directions to get the Nightly 10 version up and running, however I ran into a problem: I couldn't activate my phone.

I saw somewhere that I need to be on a non-CM ROM in order to activate it, so I made a Nandroid backup of CM and tried to restore back to my GingiBlur Blue backup. I guess that was a bad move, since upon the reboot it sat there at the white Motorola logo for about 20 minutes. I eventually tired of waiting and did a battery pull, and ended up SBFing.

So now after activating it once again I'm sitting here with a fresh Droid X, and going to bed for tonight. For tomorrow, what should I do and where did I go wrong before?

I'm going to root it and install Bootstrap again, but then what? Is it safe to try and restore a nandroid backup...should I try restoring my CM7 backup straight away?

I can change the LED colors, but the sequential flashing seems to be flaky for me (the LEDs frequently stay lit instead of flashing when turning on sequential), the options for applications aren't even close to the number available in LightFlow, and I can't customize the vibration notifications either.

A big one that's missing is calendar notifications for me.

It's just not even close.

This is untrue.

I made a Nandroid backup of CM and tried to restore back to my GingiBlur Blue backup

Doesn't work because the kernel and radio images are different.

No, different kernels. SBF to FroYo, root, install bootstrap, and flash to the latest CM7 nightly release, then factory reset. You can activate at first boot.

Ok, I did all of that and it works fine! Thanks! That makes complete sense, I'm just new to all of this so I didn't know that Nandroid doesn't change those as well.

I pay for tethering (figured I'd better prelude with that). I have been running CM7 and am wondering about either installing mobile hotspot or wireless tether. I guess my question is whether wireless tether is legal for me to use given that i pay for the feature
If you're paying for it, you can use it legally, that being said, there is a little uncertainty about blur apps (such as mobile hotspot, etc.) working on CM7.
My only advice is to make a nandroid backup, load the APK files and try it. If it doesn't work, you can go back to where you started.

Yep, the Nandroid only stores the current state of your user-modifiable file system. Bootloader, kernel, and radio are not considered part of the normal file system.

CM7 runs off the "Froyo" kernel (really a misnomer - there's no such thing as a "froyo kernel" - it's just the kernel version that happened to ship with FroYo). So you can't just go back and forth from Motorola's Gingerbread to CM7 without replacing the kernel.

Wow, this is awesome! Running Nightly 10, and there are so many options and things to do, it's like I'm using my first smartphone again. Just a couple questions/comments for now:

Does CM7 underclock by default? I'd like to get it so that it does so while the screen is off, so that I may extend battery life.

I've been playing around with the unlock settings to no avail. I like how you can access the music player on the lockscreen without unlocking the phone. I also love how you're able to use gestures to unlock the phone. My problem is that I would also like to use a pattern unlock, and have a gesture as an emergency or faster way to unlock the phone. However when enabling pattern unlock, I can't draw gestures or see the music player because it goes straight to the pattern unlock screen (instead of the slider). I tried making a password/pin instead, but my gesture just unlocks the screen and I also need to enter in the password/pin. Finally, I just removed the unlock slider so that only my gesture would unlock the phone, but I'm nervous that if something happened I would be completely locked out. It's also not always entirely accurate. Is there any way to change it to suit my needs, or is the closest thing I'm going to get disabling the slider and just using gestures?

When I swipe upwards on my dock, the dock disappears (though there is a bit of a shadow at the bottom) and my phone vibrates. The only way to get the dock back is to swipe down. I understand this is probably something with ADWlauncher. In the Hidden Dockbar options page, there is an option called Dockbar ("Enable/disable the new dockbar for your shortcuts"). When it is unchecked, the dockbar stops disappearing when I swipe down, however the phone still vibrates. Is there a way to fix this? What exactly is the purpose of it anyway?

CM7 does not undervolt by default. I would use QuickClock Advanced for overclock/undervolt. I noticed that Jrummy's app used a ton of CPU and killed my battery, QuickClock didn't/doesn't.

Not sure about your problem with the lockscreen. I just used the stock lockscreen with CM7. With Blur Based ROM's I did pattern locks, but not with CM7.

And yes, your last problem is ADW. I don't use it so someone else will have to answer that one.

The purpose of the hidden dockbar is to allow you an additional 6 shortcuts.
Swiping up or down depending how you have it set up, reveals the hidden dock.
Swiping once more hides it again.
I am currently using ADW EX which I highly recommend you go and buy.
Much better, and power packed with features and settings when compared to ADW.

Regarding all the people who say Android Overclock (JRummy's app) drains a lot of battery, how can you guys tell? Not that I'm calling you liars or anything, but I've been using it to overclock and undervolt my phone since CM7 started on the DX, and i've had nothing but stellar battery life. I see no drains at all on my device.

I can say that my battery life is much better since freezing the app. I'm not 100% sure that it was the culprit, but I went from getting about 9-10 hours before it ran out of a battery and needed to be recharged to getting 15+ hours and still having battery power left before I go to bed. I typically charge over night and I've never come close to using 100% battery since freezing the app. I think my worst day so far was yesterday (Saturday). I was up at 8am for a swim meet, I listened to Pandora while I did yard work for over an hour on top of my regular phone usage and I still had 30% battery power left when I went to bed at 11:30pm. My overall usage has stayed about the same and freezing the app is really the only change.

I wasn't even using the app to overclock or underclock and decided to freeze it when I noticed that it was a running service all the time (something that is normal I believe). I figured I didn't need it running if I wasn't using it. The next day was the first day I had incredible battery life and it has continued everyday since then.

Every time I flash a nightly I lose data connection. I finally figured out it was turning it off by default. I have been getting it back by turning on wifi for awhile then turning it back off. But, today I wasn't around wifi and I turned it back on with the power widget and it stayed connected for awhile but then lost data connection again. So, I had to turn it off then back on through the widget to connect. Anybody else having similar problems? Any work arounds? I only noticed this happening about nightly #5 right when I downloaded rom mgr premium.

Update: Data still doesn't connect when rebooting. Could it be one of the settings in the power control widget?
