HTC hotmail and speaker crackle (ear) issues

I have a sprint htc hero, I love it except for 2 problems.

#1 is the earpiece speaker (the normal phone on your ear speaker) sounds like it is blown but i think its something in the phone rattling. I contacted htc about this and they said i have to send the phone to NY to get it fixed and at least a weeks wait. Thats crap turnaround for a phone. I keep the volume 1 click above half and it buzzes. Its only a few weeks old. They said they never heard about the speaker crackle/vibration when i talked to them...

I can hear the same/very similar sound if i tap the top of my phone with my finger (near the camera) with my phone off to my ear. Its the same with the batt door off, the battery out, the sd card out, holding the sd card down/in, and holding the camera clear shield down.

Any BTDT or ideas?

#2 is i have hotmail working on my phone but occasionally when i send emails with reply all it sends complete jibberish like this,

> U28sIHlvdSBndXlzIGhhdmUgYSBnYW1lIGFmdGVyIG91cnMsIHNvIGhvdyB3aWxsIGdvaW4gdG8g
> VGVkcyB3b3JrPwoKTWUgbiBjaGVlc2UgYXJlIGNvb2wgaWYgSSBkb24ndCBoYXZlIHRvIG11Y2gu

> IlRpbSBIZW5uZXNzZXkiIDx0aW1zb2NjZXI4QHlhaG9vLmNvbT4KRGF0ZTogRnJpLCBKYW4gMjks

But it sends 70 lines of this jibberish and have a couple of these (below) between a few 70 line chunks of jibberish text like above

Im guessing this is broken code, maybe a sending glitch? This was forwarded back to me of what i sent from my htc hero. It was a pretty lengthy email with at least 1 reply form an iphone in there.

I just upped the max message size to unlimited, not sure if that will help or not.

Any ideas?

Yeah, i have seen that post and i have searched quite a bit. That post ended with it fixed itself by plugging in a stereo jack. I forgot to mention i tried plugging in a 3.5mm stereo plug (2 different ones) and nothing changed. If i have a 3.5mm stereo plugged into the jack and i tap the phone i still get the rattle. The speaker turns off on the phone when you plug headphones in so not sure how or if its possible to test it with something in the 3.5mm jack. Im not about to go stuffing things in there though.

Did you use a 4 pin or 3 pin to quiet yours?

The rattle does seem to come from the stereo jack area but if i tap that while i hear the speaker crackle/buzz the speaker vibration doesnt change or go away momentarily with the tap like it should if they were the same. So, at least on mine, im not sure the tap rattle and the speaker rattle are the same.

I also read it could be the vibrate motor. Tapping it while its vibrating changes nothing about the sound of the rattle. Obviously i cant hear anything through the speaker when it vibrates as im pretty sure it wont vibrate while you are on the phone.

Anyone sent their phone to HTC yet for warranty? Just curious how quick the turnaround was.
