Does Your Bionic have Heat Issues?

Just curious who has heat issues, if I mess with the phone for more than 5 minutes it gets really warm/hot. T-Bolt used to get pretty warm but the bionic gets almost hot. Anyone else??

My OG Droid and Droid X would get extremely hot but my Bionic hasn't even felt warm in my hands.

Do u have a case on it, I usually have a case and wouldnt notice as much but Im waiting on the holster shell combo to come. Still gets pretty damn warm

I noticed this the first day, and went back into the store to ask them about it. They said just to watch it (and so obviously had no clue).
I haven't really noticed it since then. Mine is completely naked. (Seems like heavy 4G use heats it the most)

LOL, Ok thanks. I work for Verizon and have had atleast 10 phones in the past 2 years, never have any "warmed" up as much as this one. Hence the reason I asked If this is an issue everyone is dealing with.

And how many of them had a CDMA modem, an LTE modem and a dual core 1Ghz processor to power at the same time? A handful of reviews also note that their Bionics became quite warm after some use so it's normal.

correct it's common all the radios and processor so close to the battery.

I have not had one heat issue. I was using my phone for 3+ hours straight yesterday and friday.

Do it again and check what's eating your battery.

I installed juice defender, hopefully that helps. It was at 100% battery at 11pm and this morning when I woke up at 7am it was "in the orange".

JuiceDefender is awesome. I get a X1.5 multiplier, so that's 13ish hours on a stock battery.

my bionic barely gets warm. and thats from 2 to 3 hrs of straight usage on 4G with watching some videos. this is surprising because my X would get really hot.

Check out BattMonX in the market. I have it on my "X" so I would think it might work on the Bionic. The reason it this app tracks the temp of your phone it either centigrade or fahrenheit. It also shows the battery condition in 1% increments.

that's because you have apps running constantly in the background. you should open you task manager and see what is running...

Gets a little warm with the shell/holster case but nothing unexpected. My DX got warm with heavy use but nothing serious.

Mine gets pretty warm sometimes, and I do have a plastic case on it, but it has been my experience in the past with other phones, that if they get too hot, they will just shut down, and that hasn't happened with my Bionic.

Check your battery stats and see if your phone actually went to sleep. More than likely, some app or background data kept your phone from sleeping. I still think there is some kind of issue with the Bionic regarding Cell Standby. There are times when my phone drops more than 10% per hour even when it is in my pocket doing nothing. So either something keeps the phone awake, or possibly weak signal is causing your radio to work harder.

When I'm in a weak signal area, my phone does get warm (even with the screen off). Not hot, but warmer than room temperature. When I'm in a better signal area, the phone stays near room temp. And of course, when I'm doing something more intensive with the screen on, sometimes it can get very warm.

BTW, does anyone know if there's a way to turn off the cell radios but leave Bluetooth on? I work at a job where I can listen to headphones, so I normally listen to music and podcasts via Bluetooth several hours per shift. However, I do not need any cell access for calls, texts, etc, so I would prefer to leave the cell radios off while listening to Bluetooth.

Is there any way to turn off the cell radios but leave Bluetooth on? I know Airplane mode turns off ALL of the radios, including Bluetooth..

I have the Shell Case/Holster combo with Extended Battery and it gets very warm.

I read in another thread how the OG Droid had a metal cover and the Bionic has a plastic cover (like many newer phones). Metal conducts heat better, reducing temperature, unlike plastic.

I did an experiment this afternoon by putting my Bionic in my in my plastic Shell Case AFTER I REMOVED THE BIONIC'S PLASTIC BACK COVER. And you know what? ...It's a LOT COOLER NOW. The cover has some venting areas, especially if the kick stand is being used.

I also read how battery temperature can affect battery life, so I hope I get a little more time out if this ...double bonus.

Mine got warm after using GPS for 2.5 hours in the car with 4G coverage also. Still doesn't get nearly as hot as my OG Droid did, that thing could cook food.

I have the shell / holster case combo and the only time it got even remotely warm was when I played a solid 30 minutes of Cross-Court tennis game nonstop.
