I found this thread cause I had this problem. I wasn't able to make changes to the screen setup because I accidently enabled screen lock. If you do a long press to add a widget or something it just says Screen Lock. To turn it off, go to launchers prefs (hit menu button on home screen), then click more, then click unlock screen.
Since updating to .602 yesterday, I now have the stupid slider lock. It wasn't there with FroYo or any previous versions, or at least it was disable-able.
My Preferences menu tree is:

Under
Settings > Location & security > ----Security---- > Set up screen lock there appears to be the option to use a pattern, PIN, or password (I assume instead of the slider). Unfortunately none of these does anything.
How else might I get rid of the slider screen lock? I think it is really annoying.
