Don't panic, I'm here.

Good morning/afternoon to you all!

I have recently purchased a Huawei Sonic (Huawei Sonic specs - Phone Arena) running 2.3 Android and this it the first time that I have used the OS. I originally wanted to get an iPhone, however as I have recently moved from the UK to Australia to travel there was no chance of getting a contract due to time limitations
and purchasing the handset outright was not an option. The Sonic was a mere $188AUS/$192US/

Hi Ben,
Hope your travels are going well, your blog has some good adventures.

Just wondering if you can help me with the question below, as I noticed you have been able to tether your Sonic to use as a laptop modem both via the USB cable and through the wi-fi hotspot function.

"I want to tether my Huawei Sonic to my laptop (running Windows XP) via the USB cable to use the phone as a modem. When I connect the Sonic and enable USB Tethering on the phone, the laptop opens the New Hardware Wizard to search for a driver for "Android Adaptor".

I have looked everywhere online, including the Huawei site, but cannot find reference to the "Android Adaptor" driver. Just wondering if anyone has got this driver or found a way to get USB tethering going on the Sonic? "

Any tips appreciated.

I'll be honest, I connect my phone, choose to NOT connect via USB, connect to tethering in the menu, and Windows 7 finds the connection automatically. Alternatively, I set up the hotspot and the laptop connects with a password so that no one else can use the connection. Apologies that I can't be of more use.. Oh, and I'm replying from a communal campsite kitchen where the laptop is charging.. Using my Sonic as a modem in Coral Bay, WA ;)

Hi,

this is my first day i glade to answer to a question in my first day. so here it goes,

to active usb tethering on your huawei sonic on WINDOWS XP, first you have to install active sync to the pc. that will install the all files which are required to usb tether. on Windows 7, those files are come with the windows installation.
for xp guys, first you have to install active sync (which is syncing windows mobiles with pc), restart the pc and then, you can tether you huawei sonic with the pc.

hope this will work to you, coz it help me a lot.
