Im seriously not impressed...
its a 22min video out that goes into serious detail supposedly(First Look: Windows Phone 7 Series Hands on Demo | Laura Foy | Channel 9), i`ll check that out when i get home.
but from what i`ve seen...dont get wrong.
im happy that winmo has OFFICIALLY risen from the ashes.
its just NOT saying anything to android in my initial view of it.
and the one thing it will lack right now...is APPS!
cause apparently, its NOTHING like 6.5 on the insides.
but who the hell would want them clunky old apps anyway! (its one of the main reasons i left). though, all the sync issues, the outlook and exchange support issues, the media problems the lack of flash...all of that is done by DEFAULT in winmo. android is no where near winmo regarding those things.
i mean companies are trying to make programs to work with whats already in winmo by default.
its just...im now an open source guy and love what android has to offer NOW. its growing very fast and at least for the remainder of this year...i believe android will thrive. I know im getting a nexus one (or the desire (bravo) if it comes to verizon) to last me the rest of this year. that will give winmo time to get some dev support...some very nice looking phones and maybe on verizon by the time i can upgrade again (june 2011).
this year i am all DRRROIIIDD!
but next year...gosh i just dont know!
anyone else see the new windows phone series??

Windows Phone 7 Series Interface - Engadget Galleries

does look pretty slick... the only thing im thinking is what will happen with the customisation and such i.e. custom roms and such... because it looks 'closed' if you get what i mean... lol anyway they do look good... buuut i think they will apeal to two toally different types of people... :)

i agree.
from what i hear, XDA (regarding winmo 7) is dead!
it will be no custom anything for anyone according to MS.
not necessarily a bad thing IMO.
BUT this UI is great...just not enough alone...to pull me away this year :)
2011...i got my eye on you!

haha. hmm maybe... im really really suprised there will be no customisation *ahemiphoneahem* thanks for confirming that =]

i dont think i could be drawn over tbh... i mean i know im only 17 but i was originally drawn to winmo because my dad had had devices running it and the thing i like was the fact it had customisation btw this was when i was like 15/16.... but i have always been drawn to devices which have apps and quite different phones my old N73 which i had alot of different stuff on and my P1 which was a mistake because uiq had died when i got it . but it looks like MS have gone more towards the casual user rather than one who likes try different things with there device. i think its a valient effort to bring winmo up to date but they have lost it completely withno customisation... i know there will be an app store type thing but will it be all MS supplied or will people create there own... so yeh haha just my opinoin =]

sheesh...those are some very good points.
i mean with no ROM being made for the manufacturers to leak to the community to develop custom ROMs...this is basically a winmoiphone!
and this isnt linux so GOOD LUCK rooting this phone!
cause i mean...you would need the source code...and MS...giving source codes HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
sorry

im being quite serious. MS is no way shape or form 'open'.
so like we get the source code for android...and we can basically make another OS from that!
but not with windows. its closed.
yeah...source codes are basically the programming needed to run android on a phone. the "html" of android. its the words, numbers and symbols compiled together to make a program.
microsoft doesnt release theirs.

ahhh ok i get you now thanks for explaing =]

anyway its bound to apeal to somone so who are we to tell everyone what to buy =] :D

although thinking now... they have only just(ish) released 6.5 correct me if im wron within the last 10 months? anyway... would this be running alongside 6.5 or is 7 taking over 6.5? because the average winmo user at this point is business poeple like my dad... soo it could just be very clever marketing type thing... they might continue to create devices for 6.5 and have 7 as a casual user platform? just a thought :D

* edit - it dosent look like what the average business person would use...

ok...so from one of the devs who does this!
roms will still be able to be made...its not as close as one would think.
a lil harder to do and winmo7 will be new territory but...can be done!
yes def for the business user as this does not have PLAY anywhere on it!
except with THE ZUNE INTEGRATION!! :)

I'm interested in seeing where this goes. I have a Zune HD for my PMP and I love it. The interface is slick and super easy. The hardware is outstanding. The ZunePass is totally worth it and even the desktop software isn't too bad.

I can predict though from experience with Zunes and Xbox 360, you won't be able to customize a thing. MS will have this locked down tight. For example on my Zune you can't reorder or remove unused apps in the main ribbon (like radio or social). It just is what it is and I suspect that the phone will be the same way.

Hmm, looks like i looked at in completly the wrong light the and on tha bombshell my opion has changed.... i think i just misjudged it because it looks so iphone-esque... i think to me i generally expect it too look like the winmo of old and tbh i thought MS werent able to come up with anything diffferent. Any im off out but will receive e-mails on this thread im sure it will spark some itresting discussions:D
