Help Please help me fix my camera! Black patch..

Hi All,

I just bought the Photon 4G day before night and am loving it :D

But I realized that camera is showing a black patch on the screen... Its there in the file even when i take snaps as well as record videos :( Its set there permanently (fixed spot). Its somewhat translucent.

Please can anyone help me out fixing it cause its disappointing me somewhat :(

I have attached few images to let you guys know how it looks..

Oh and I think I dont need to point out the location of this ****. Its at the same spot in all the three images. In the second pic below the androids right leg...

P.S. Tried resetting the phone to factory setting, tried removing the battery..

I can't see your pictures, but if the flaw is always in the same spot, you probably have a bad CCD chip.
Take it back to the store and let them test it.

I had a similar problem with the first smart phone I bought (a Palm Pre). In that case, the CCD had a large spot which was too sensitive. In total darkness the camera would show a bright spot there.

It seriously looks like a pen marking (no clue how it would've gotten there except a design flaw) and it's likely on the inside of the lens. I would bring it in and have it replaced (and make sure they give you a new one) before you start customizing or doing anything else. It's still practically new, but if that marking shows up in all the pics, it has to be somewhere on the lens that you can't clean off.

btw, have you tried cleaning the lens to see if that helps?

Did you activate it with Sprint or is it activated elsewhere? If with Sprint, why not see if they'll replace it for you anyway.

I stay atleast 10000 miles away from USA! :( Can it be something to do with the software? Any possibility. I havent even rooted my phone yet. Am such a noob atm! LoL

I see. Since you activated outside the US, not much I can do to help you as far as replacement is concerned. My best advice would be to try to find a spare parts website that has replacement Photon lenses and find a place locally (wherever you are) to have the lens replaced.

Since you're not a Sprint customer, I can't really give you any further advice on how to fix it beyond what I've already mentioned.

When i lookup my imei its showing up in the mitorola website. Its also got warranty till dec 2012... i opened a ticket with motorola india but they told me that they wont be able to help me as they dont have the hardware and software support here. The phone hasnt released in india. They asked me to get back to motorola us and tell them this. I'll check what can be done. And is there a way to openup and try cleaning manually?

There is a way to open up manually, if you want to give it a go. Here's the video
Motorola Photon 4G MB855 Screen Disassemble/Take Apart/Repair Video Guide - YouTube

Since it was purchased in the US, I'd say it'd be worth a shot to contact Motorola Customer Service. They've been fantastic with my experiences on their support for 1 year limited warranty. I do recommend registering the phone based on the day you purchased.
