Hero's can't swim (a sad story)

Long story short, my hero got washed (in the washing machine).

I have had mixed feelings about my hero, I've loved the android OS and picked htc because of it's pleasing looking sense UI and it's approach to a smartphone, but was a little disappointed with the hero's processing capability and general "lagginess". I ended up not even using much of the sense stuff and replaced a lot of it with "beautiful widgets".

Of course, like everyone else, I did root my phone and flash fresh1.1 and gumbo kernal and the performance was better, but the battery life (even with set cpu) left a lot to be desired.

My question is, if I am going to take out a minor loan to replace my android phone, is the hero the way to go? Is there another, better sprint android phone that will be released soon?

I hope none of you ever have your phones go the way mine did, and give me your opinions!

But no matter how bad it is this will top it. Took it in to sprint and said it quit working. It was a I580 supposed to be. Tough all I could do is laugh it off.

That's how much all new android phones cost when purchased without an upgrade on your account available.....

True, but I read that even after a 2 year upgrade/Contract renewal, that the phone is still going to cost somewhere between $250-300. But that number could be wrong. I was just happy that I only paid about $200 for my Hero after rebates and such.

Have you tried rewashing this in distilled water. I don't know if it will help but it cant hurt. I have dunked electronics in coffee before and then took it apart and washed it in distilled water, let it dry and it worked fine. Just let it dry well first. It looks like there is special screws that would require a special tool but I would try that first before tossing the 500+ bucks in the trash.

I would be very careful putting electricity through it when wet. This could fry things. The water and soap electrolyte killed the battery I am sure and probably didn't hurt the electronics. Fireing it up wet might have been an issue. I would still break it apart, wash it with distilled water to remove any soap residue then let it dry completely. Days in a low dry heat environment, 100F would be good. I will bet it works just fine after that. Keep you hopes up. I am not sure about the camera features though.

you pay 200??? wow! they pay me $70 after rebates for me to use the hero :)

... put the phone in rice for 1 or 2 days.

The dryer works well too, just make sure you have the heat on low. I have a rack for my dryer so it doesn't bounce around in there but if you don't then wrap it up in a sweater or something and let it go for about 20 minutes.

As far as your battery issue, I have had like 10 different touch screen phones in the last 2 years, none of them have had a better battery then the Hero. Nature of the beast. I actually just got rid of my Pre, and the Hero battery is much better then my Pre was.

Sad story....I actually just let mine go through the whole wash cycle before i realized it wasnt in my pocket. I would say stick with the hero, if something better comes out then just buy another hero, if the supersonic does make it to sprint in the next 4 or 5 months then sell the hero on ebay and buy it.

I say that because when i took my hero in to be fixed they gave me a rant 2 :( and there is no real point holding out for a phone that might not make it to sprint anyway.

SN: the rice thing does work, and you should look into gettin best buys black tie shit, it covers everything but the phone being stolen

no insurance, have had insurance through sprint before but it doesn't cover water damage and that's the only way I've ever broken a phone

I'm getting some rice this afternoon and will give it a shot tomorrow around noon and will let you guys know

Total Equipment Protection (which was the only plan I was offered) - Insurance for stolen, lost or physically damaged devices.

Sounds like swimming would have qualified for replacement if insurance had been on the phone.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
