Get over 100 paid apps for free right now on GetJar

If you're looking for a good alternative to Google's Android Market or Amazon's Appstore, GetJar might be just what you're trying to find. They tend to offer pretty sweet deals on paid apps, and their latest holiday offering is no different.
Apparently, for the rest of December, you can find a huge array of paid apps for free. To download an app, you will need to install GetJar's own app store, which is kind of inconvenient. But maybe some of these apps are worth it to you if you can legitimately get them for free:

  • All Sport GPS Pro
  • Beautiful Widgets
  • Blow Up
  • Deer Hunter 3D
  • Farm Frenzy
  • Fruit Ninja HD
  • Ghost Radar
  • Memory Booster
  • Paper Camera
  • Paper Glider
  • Splashtop Remote Desktop
  • Tapatalk Forum
  • Tek Trak Mobile Security
  • The Moron Test
  • TuneIn Radio Pro
  • Tweetcaster Pro
  • Wave Launcher
This is only a small selection of everything that's available, so if your interest is piqued, be sure to head over to GetJar today!
[Get Jar]

I think the only downside is that the apps aren't updated. For example, I purchased Beautiful Widgets from the Android market & my wife got it for free. Since she got it I've gotten 2 updates & she hasn't gotten any. Other than that, I've gotten a lot of apps from Getjar myself.

Also, make sure your browser is set to mobile. For some apps, Getjar will request that you download their app, which you can't download from full site for some reason.

There are a lot of nice apps there for free. Is getjar legit? I don't want to get a virus downloading some warez or illegit apps on my phone...

They are legit. I had the same reaction you're having until I saw who was posting it and where they were posting from.

Which begs the question... why would anyone knowing this ever buy apps from GetJar?

Cause they are free. It also isn't accurate that they are not updated. GetJar added the ability for devs to update apps and push it through notifications. This only went into place shortly after Thanksgiving and since then I've received two updates to Beautiful Widgets (as a personal note I regard updates as superfluous when I'm getting the app for free, long as the app works, I'm good).

Another thing to note about GetJar is that they actually pay the full price of the app to developers every time a free app is downloaded (this and the way they make money in general is through the sponsored apps). Apparently this isn't necessarily the case in other app stores.

All and all I thing GetJar is a good deal.

I actually got an update alert on my phone from Getjar today for Tapatalk :)

I check out GJ almost everyday but I wish they had a bit less games and more tools and utilities ;)

So this isn't one of those places that has the viruses? I always read about the latest Android viruses, and it almost always says the apps spreading it were only available in some alternative market. What's the risk here? Is it about the same as the Android market? Or do these guys leave apps available that are known to contain malware?

There's a lot of good stuff available. I upgraded a few free apps to pro versions and installed a bunch of new ones to try out.

I just tried Splashtop Remote Desktop for the first time and it's quite good for remote desktop with sound. I was able to log into my PC and watch live TV in Windows Media Center (with a TV tuner) over wifi.

Well, if they're free then you're not buying them. But the ability to update negates the issue anyway.
