tux,
I have this same issue. I took my 2nd Droid (first was replaced due to a camera issue) in this weekend. Well 3 service reps listened and couldn't hear it, the manager listened and couldn't hear it, and finally after a bit of firmness on my end the manager swapped me to a new phone. I did a test call from the store and didn't hear it, but all be dammed, when I got home my new Droid does it too. My first Droid did not do this, and my wifes Droid does not do this. My wife however cant hear the tick, do we just have sensitive ears, or do these other people not know what to listen for? I am not sure if I'm gonna take this new one back just yet. I think I may wait a few more weeks so they get a few more units out of the factory. My original Droid (and wifes) was a 40/09. The 2nd Droid was a 39/09 and I could tell a big quality difference between the 39 and the 40, 40 was way better. My newest Droid is a 44/09 and it is the best yet. I am thrilled with it aside from the speaker tick.
