I really liked this phone when I first got it. It seemed like a pretty good deal, nice and light weight, quick, 4g, etc.

It had a bunch of spamware on it but you know what you're getting yourself into if you've dealt with metro before. it took me three days to figure out how to disable the popup ads on the first phone i got from them, some samsung hackberry. you can delete some but not all of the preloaded apps which is kind of annoying.

the battery is anemic but whatever. i have a charger at home, work and in the car and rarely run completely out. maybe once a week.

the fatal flaw, which you probably won't notice until you've had the phone for a couple weeks, is that there's no digital zoom on the camera. it seems like they somehow forgot it, but no. samsung is slick like that. they've done it with at least one other model (Nexus S). you'd think you could just download an app that's got a zoom feature, right? think again. those apps don't give you zoom either, because the samsung galaxy attain doesn't support it. i got on their chat support and was told they have no plans to fix it.

lots of people say digital zoom is really just cropping. not really. digital zoom is in realtime, which is critical to people who buy phones like this. you typically want to be quick on the draw to capture the things around you, but the samsung galaxy attain will never let you do that. and by the time you realize it, you might be past your return period, and metro will tell you to go scratch. why haven't more reviewers pointed this out? i feel tricked.

to be fair: if you don't care about camera features, this phone is a good bargain.

me on the other hand, i'm still in denial. i'm pissed that i'm stuck with a phone that does not support any form of camera zoom. there is an app development group that said they would work on it, so if you want that info, maybe we can get them a little kickstarter campaign goin.

anyway, i'm giving this piece of crap a 2/5 until there's a zoom workaround.

Idk I'd have to give it at least 3/5 despite the lack of zoom in favor of the crisp and reactive auto focus and manual focal choosing option.

Battery needs help but its mostly bloat drain as far as I can tell...

I like it.

Its not from the bloatware as far as I can tell. Just like on the indulge if you turn off the 4g using anycut the battery barely drops at all. With 4g off my attain has gone 24 hours without a charge and sat pretty the next day around 65%.

Good thing is unlike the indulge, when you get a call the 4g doesn't turn itself on again. It stays off when you turn it off, until you want it back on. The phone still operates on 3g while 4g is off.

So while I'm working or whenever I don't need 4g, I turn it off. I never run out of battery.

The phone deserves better than 2/5 IMHO.

Using anycut, or launcher pro. Long press the homescreen, select shortcut, anycut or launcher pro, activity, scroll down to LTE functionality test. After the shortcut is made on your home screen tap it. The only two things you need are the options Turn on and turn off. I don't mess with the other things since I don't know what they do :p

Btw not sure why I thanked you haha.

LTE functionality test doesnt completely keep 4g off till you turn it back on. If you go in Anycut and go to activity, i think it is the second or 3rd DATA in the list. Create a shortcut. You need your SPC though. Run it,put your SPC in and go down to the bottom of the list to LTE MODE. It is the same screen as on the Indulge. You need to do the same to enable global again. I havent figured out if there is a way to have it automatically put the SPC in or not.

Uhm. Can't say I agree. Mine has yet to turn itself back on by itself in the couple of weeks since I got it.

The attain is different from the indulge, where as when you made a call or received one on the indulge the radios kicked out and reset, thus resetting them after the call and turning 4g back on.

The attain works different. The attain doesn't reset the radios when you use the phone, you will notice while you are on a call on the indulge the data will not work, and the data icon (4g, 3g. Etc.) Is not present on the notification bar. In other words you cannot use the internet while on a call on the indulge. This is why the 4g turns back on.

On the attain you can use data while on a voice call, the radios stay intact and the icon remains present. They do not reset, as they are seperate unlike the indulge. 4g remains off when you finish your call.

The method you are talking about was necessary on other lte phones like the indulge because of this. The method you mentioned completely turns off lte yes, but its not needed, my method works 100% and is less work to implement.

In no way do I mean this as an insult, but you are just wrong. On the attain the lte functionality test will turn off 4g and leave it off until you decide to turn it back on.

So.... I have been using the lte off option on any cut.... 4g turned back on twice today. Not after calls or anything afaik it just turns back on after about three hours.

That's weird .. hasn't happened to me yet. Afaik the only thing that should make it come back on would be the radios resetting but that doesn't seem to be a problem for this phone as its designed a bit different. Was actually used as one of its selling points.

Maybe I stand corrected myself lol. But I find that odd, mine has yet to turn itself back on.. hmm..
