Help Keypad lock

Hi,
I primarily use my explorer for instant messaging...
Its very irritating to unlock the keypad every 1 -2 minutes, First press the power button then pull the ring..
If i turn off the auto lock feature then the screen remains lit up for a long time thereby draining the battery.

I want the screen to shut off in 1 minute, but the phone should not get locked.

I tried the lock screen remover from the market, but that just disables the ring feature - i primarily want to reduce the usage of the power button..

I also use the phone mainly for messaging..and felt the same way when I had to unlock it again and again, moreover feared of screwing up with the power/unlock button..but fortunately I found a solution to this

Download Handcent SMS application from the play store..its a great app which can be used to lock the message box on android phones..
after installing..open application..go to settings -> notification settings -> notification settings -> check 'Screen On' option..

Now whenever your phone automatically locks itself and you receive a message while it is in lock mode..the screen will wake-up and you won't need to press the power button again and again..you only have to slide the ring to unlock your phone now (which can be disabled as well by using other apps on the store)..the screen will automatically go into sleep mode as soon as the 'Screen Timeout' time in Display Settings of your phone has expired..

Settings I use on my phone regarding instant messaging:-

  1. Disabled stock application for messaging (by Handcent SMS), and password protected.
  2. Screen On option checked in Handcent SMS (turns on the screen every time a message is received, so i need not use power button to unlock).
  3. Screen Timeout set to 30 seconds (locks the phone automatically after 30s of idle activity, again i need not use power button to lock, and 30s wont add much to the battery drain).
Dunno how many times I am gonna edit my post (maybe bcoz its my first post)..:)

If you are still worried about those 30 seconds of battery drain, then you can download 'Lock Screen' Widget from the play store..and place it on your home screen..whenever you want to lock your phone immediately and you don't want to press the power button also, you can just tap on the widget icon and your phone will lock immediately as if you have pressed the power button to lock your phone..

Hope it helps..
