hero rom

I want to get the hero rom on my g1. Can someone tell me the best one to get and give me some tips on how to do it

Well depends entirely on you for which is the best one... Are you more interested in function or UI... that is going to be the deciding factor for any build at the moment... secondly have you rooted your phone yet? if you have you will need to check to make sure your phone is even compatible with the required upgrades.... Power off your phone then power it back on holding the camera + end call buttons down... you will boot into fastboot mode (3 skateboarding androids) at the top of the screen if the board type is not listed as PVT then you really should not proceed as most likely it will brick your phone in other words if you see DVT or DVT-2 DO NOT even attempt to install HERO..... Regardless let me know if your rooted and if you have a PVT or DVT board and then i'll help you install...

I am also interested in doing this. I am currently rooted, I do have a PVT board, (its weird though because I dont get the skateboarding androids when I do camera + power, I get a multicolored screen), Radio is 2.22.19.26I. I have JF1.51-CRB43-US with the Hero theme ([Theme]Hero theme for JFv1.51 CRB43-US(Updated 7/24) - xda-developers).

The problem I ran into was partitioning my SD card. I do currently have a class 6 as my primary SD card, but I like to use the 1gb one that came with the phone for rooting, so im not sure if its a class 6 or not, and if it would work. I also have no idea how to partition an SD card.

Thanks

No my phone isn't rooted. I'm not even sure what that means. I been looking at a lot of hero video on youtube and I see people with the hero rom running smooth. I don't want to break my phone so is it worth me trying.

If you have never rooted I would read up on it... There are MANY advantages aside from the fact that you are usually MONTHS ahead of the OTA releases... Get yourself familiar with what it can do for you and the reasons then when your ready to attempt I would recommend a cupcake based rooted build until you get the hang of things... dont jump into the pool if you dont know how to swim in other words...

Ok, you will need to upgrade your SPL/Bootloader to get the skateboarding androids its in the Engineering bootloader and Modded SPL... FASTBOOT is and can be a phone saver so you should look into the engineering bootloader before going to HERO... ALSO you will need the modified SPL for HERO and installing that will wipe your info so you will need fastboot ready to get your phone running again... Dont use your stock sd for rooting it is not a class 6 and will be useless if you cut it in half when you partition not to mention anything less than a class 6 will slow your phone dramatically when running apps to sd which is required in most HERO builds....

Foe example an EXT2 or EXT3 partition isusually needed for HERO for your apps and a FAT32 for everything else...I recommend 100 - 500 megs for your EXT2/EXT3 partition for your apps and to have a class(4) or better SD card... To create the partitions for Windows I recommend using Paragon and for Linux/Ubuntu use Gparted... Once you have your partitions created and formated put the SD card back in the phone if it isn't already and connect it to your computer... Hope that helps a little...

Amen to that. Last month I was updating to the Hero rom, and everything was going perfectly smoothly, I was almost finished, then when I put the Hero SPL on it, it updated then when it restarted would not get past the screen that says T-moble G1. I couldn't get into boot mode, recovery mode, Nothing, It was a total brick. So Luckily I called Tmoble and gave them some bullshit about me getting an OTA and popping out the battery during the update and that's what happened. They sent me a new phone free of charge, not even shipping, but I doubt I can do that twice so I'm being careful with my phone now although my mouth is watering to put hero on it, but after seeing just how easy a phone can brick I'm afraid to do anything to it that T-mobile doesn't give me. Although I'm dying just to at least root it so I can use my appstosd app for my internal memory, but whatever, at least my phone works now, LOL
