So when i opened up the HTC evo specs

How so? The screen is bigger, but it's standard lcd so expect the same washed out dull colors of yesteryear. Wimax is nice but from what I've read with Tmo's HSDPA+ rollout it's already faster, though Wimax will eventually become faster but not at this time.
SenseUI, I'll pass, I'd rather have stock android. Front facing camera, I don't think I'd ever use this, I've had a webcam on my computers for about 10 years now and I've never once turned it on. Hdmi output I don't think I'd ever use either.

The one thing I like is 720p video recording, the 8mp cam I don't care about because I always have a dedicated shooter on me. Colored trackball notification are also a must have for me like on the N1, can't really tell if the Evo has any colored led notification though I'm sure it does, probably a small one in the corner.

But everybody doesn't have those nice things you have, so those specs which matter little to you could mean a whole lot more to those who don't have them.

Personally I like the phone specs and how it raises the bar in certain things but there are two major issues with the EVO 4g for me:

#1 exclusive for sprint - just like the iPhone for ATT, exclusive agreements are a selfish business tactic. I think of it like if a car company said they would sell me a new honda civic for $7,500... but with a interest rate of 50% for 5 years and if I canceled there would be a $7,500 cancellation fee. I would tell the car company to kiss off. No way that I'm not going to support a great company like Google that comes out with an amazing phone and is giving all their customers the choice of their carrier and subsidized or not.

#2 tired of chasing - the N1 is the "perfect" phone for me. I traded in an iPhone 3gs because the N1 fulfilled all of my needs. I live in SoCal so T-Mo coverage is great and only $34/mo data plan versus a $70/mo plan with the other carriers. I can tether without breaking my warranty. I can use a spare battery to last all day. I dont have to worry about scratching. I can make free gizmo/gv calls. I cant think of anything more that I need. 4g speeds? 3g here in SoCal is very fast for me and I dont need anything more. The 3.7 screen size is great for me since I dont want a tablet in my pocket. Front facing camera? I use gizmo to make calls with my data only plan so I wouldnt be able to use it anyways.

Likewise. The N1's hit a spot and soothed my gadget-chasing impulses to pretty much nothing. The Evo's nice and all but a) it's exclusive to Sprint (at least right now; would not be surprised if it's released unbranded, perhaps resorting to its old moniker Supersonic) and I don't even live in the US and b) it's a tad too big. I've handled a HD2. That much screen real estate is fantastic, but my palm's just not hammy enough for it.

I agree with ap3604, the Evo helps raise the bar.

Now, I live in the 5th largest metropolitan area in the US (Phoenix), and I spend more time in Edge than I do 3G. Is that provider or phone, I can't say. I plan on going to a TMO store and compare my download speeds with other floor models to see what they get. Anyway, for me and my crappy TMO coverage, the Evo would be a good contender for replacing my N1. Yeah, I could get another N1 with Sprint, but the N1's screen issue (losing calibration) would make me reconsider. I don't know... I just can say I'll be in the market for a new phone in a year and I look forward to what's out there that's (hopefully) rock solid.

well, considering the Nexus doesn't even support HSPA+, it's a moot point. I'd rather personally have WiMax than a network that is rolled out by T-Mo that a) my phone (Nexus) doesn't even support, and b) likely won't matter because even with the recent HSDPA 7.2Mbps update, my max speed is <1.0Mbps, because their backhaul is massively bottlenecked...

until you've tried these features, you can't really say you wouldn't them... a long time ago, I'm sure someone said "why would I want to surf the web on my phone, that's stupid, i'll never use that feature"... and look at things now... progress my man, progress...

Better phones are always going to come out. It was inevitable for the Nexus One to stay on top of the smart phone chain forever. I love the EVO, and now I can't wait for the next Nexus phone, imagine the specs on that thing! *imagination runs wild

I also feel like my gadget crave has been calmed by the n1. I hope to have it at least a year. But i am excited that android was chosen as the os to flagship 3g/4g phones, i think it really shows androids potential. The specs of the Evo are really nice and we all knew that something bigger than the n1 was down the pipe, it was a matter of time. However, and im not putting down the Evo in any way again the specs are incredible (im not sure i could handle that monster screen though), the one thing that will keep me loyal to the nexus 1 is stock android os and googles commitment to getting updates out to the masses in a timely manner. Hopefully the rest of the manufactures are staring to feel the pressure and will follow suit.

the more I think about it, as the shock of the EVO's pure awesome is wearing off - it's still the most amazing device announced so far... i just wonder how "pocketable" it will be... and the TFT, as much as I despite the AMOLED's outdoor performance, and how the kickstand might snag on stuff, especially when trying to quickly pull out of a pocket... i'm not sure anyways... I certainly won't jump on it on day 1... I'll check it out first... I'm liking my Nexus a lot these days after having rooted and installed essentially the same UI as the EVO (ie. Sense 2.1 aka Desire ROM) onto it...

I'll reserve final judgement when the EVO actually becomes available... I'm sure a few months down the road, it's GSM/HSPA/(LTE?) cousin will show up, somewhere, somehow... Possibly in Europe or Asia first, but I can wait...

I can't wait for the Evo, but understand I'm a big sucker for large screens. I see nothing wrong with the nexus one as its a perfect phone but I will be picking up a Evo for sure.

Yea now that the hype's worn down I love my nexus one. As far as I'm concerned it's perfect until I leave for college and then I'll put it in a box and save it for the rest of my life. Lame? Yes BUT its an amazing device. Lol

It looks great, but I can't articulate just how bad Sprint is. I was with them for a few years and half of my calls received went straight to voicemail, signal strength was always flaky and 4G is a joke. You can have the best device in the world, but if it can barely make/receive calls/texts...what's the point?

i'd be more excited about it except for the fact it's not looking like it will be released until late summer early fall. by then the new nexus one specs will be getting leaked, and that combined with google's great support for the nexus, makes me not even think about it anymore. by the time it releases it will already be obsolete. and like the previous poster says it's sprint we're talking about here. not sure i want to go down that road.

now if it were coming out tomorrow I'd have to take a hard look. but even then it's not a google phone and I want those updates without having to go thru the carrier but I would still take a look.
