Pixel Fold June 2023 Release....you getting one????

hey guys,
so this is the second time this has happened to me on my z fold phones. 1st it was my z fold 3 and now its happening on my z fold 4. what is happening you asked? well the screen protector is starting to come off.....right in the middle near the hinge. you can hear it crackle when close and open it. you can hear the glue unstick from the protector. i do not notice it as much when it is unfolded and the screen is on. but turn the screen off and you can see it.

so long story short i have an appointment at the Samsung Experience store here in LA. hopefully they can fix it on the spot. as much as i love the phone, i am getting tired of the screen issue.

so now i am thinking of getting a pixel fold. so far the reviews have been really good. and they have a good trade in program. once the screen is fixed on my z fold 4, google will give me $900 bucks trade in. i have no idea though as to where i will buy it....online or at Best Buy. at Best Buy i have can get the Geek Squad protection for it. i do not know if google has something similar.

anyways, is anybody else considering getting one?

It seems an interesting device, but for me the width when folded is a deal breaker. If it were 7cm wide when folded then I'd be interested, but 8cm means it's wider than most phones (which are themselves too wide for me) even in its smaller configuration.

Maybe if my RSI flares to the point where I'm obliged to use 2 hands to operate a phone I'll join the big phone movement, but it doesn't suit the way I work so I'm still holding out .

lol that is why i am also considering the pixel fold. it is much wider when folded. it has more of a regular phone shape. it is also a lot thinner when folded up than the z fold 4.

my other dilemma is that the z fold 5 is coming out probably in august or so. there is reports of a new hinge, thus improving the screen durability.

Google does have a protection plan, I get it for my Pixel devices. I have had bad experiences with Geek Squad, they basically refused to cover anything I took in. Go with the Google plan.

Yup, different strokes and all that.

The trouble with durability is that whatever they say you won't actually know until it's been available for a few months. And to be fair that's probably true of the Pixel too.

which is why i am gonna get my z fold 4 fixed first and then see what the pixel fold is all about a bit later. i want to be able to make a side by side comparison between the two.

I did. I needed to fix it so that I can use it to get credit towards the new phone. However, I'm not completely sold on getting the phone just yet.

Edit: plus the screen protector is not your average one. You need a Samsung trained specialist to replace it for you. If you do it yourself, you void the warranty.

i'm glad i waited. my z fold 4 past this guys test. and i am glad that my screen issue with the screen protector is an easy fix. gonna now wait to see what the z fold 5 looks like.

Got a Z Flip 4 myself. I wanted more unique, and less Google, and think the Pixel was a mistake to begin with. RIP Nexus.

That was the worse, dumbest review I have ever seen. Who takes something like a sharp nail to see if the screen scratches? Who puts a cigarette lighter to their cell phone and says it can't take the heat. Stupidest review I have ever seen.

its not a review really.....well it is sort of a review. he does this to most flagship phones to demonstrate how durable a device is. surprisingly the zfold4 past most of his tests.....especially bending the phones. the fold 4 never broke like it did for the pixel fold.

Have you ever watched a "drop test" video? I think those are dumber because the element of luck in the results is huge: whether a phone breaks depends on exactly how it lands and what it lands on (e.g. a flat surface with a small piece of grit on it will concentrate force, but probably won't be noticed by the "tester"). They are the very definition of "anecdotes posing as data". And then they continue dropping after damage has occurred as if that would not affect subsequent drops...

I always say that if one of those people buys a decent number of devices, at least 100, tests in a systematic way, removes devices from the test once damaged, and then produces a statistical analysis of the results (including uncertainty bands - if you don't have those it's not a proper measurement), then I'll watch it. Otherwise the information content is so low I'm not interested.

LOL! I remember drop test use to be used a lot, especially on the iPhone. I also remember a guy who use to do a twist test on phones and broke almost every one he twisted

Anyone remember Techrax? He was notorious for outlandish ways to destroy phones. He goofed up on the Galaxy S5, as, like a Pokemon, it used battery, and it was SUPER effective!
