My 2 cents about the app killer...

I don't want to start a fight or drama. I am new to smartphones and have only had my Eris for 4 days. I downloaded the advanced app killer my first day using it because it was recommended. My battery drained in record speed and died within 3 hours. Trust me I tried all the tricks on here for improving battery life.

Today I uninstalled the app killer and my phone's awake time went from 80% to 8% and my phone is at 98% battery life after 3 hours off the charger. I am now a believer. I have also turned off the 3g network for the most time and set WiFi to never turn off. All of this is making a big difference.

Thanks everybody!

I'm glad someone agrees with the well backed standpoint that task killers are fail. Unfortunately, a new thread wasn't entirely necessary to make that point, haha.

But yes, I've had similar results. Next time, (remember I'm not a mod, I'm just kinda being a jerk/nice at the same time) you oughta post in one of the other 20 threads about task killers and their effectiveness. Just sayin'. Don't take this harshly, it's said with a smile. :)

2.1 does a much better job of properly exiting tasks, even if you hit the home key. Still have ATM installed because it doesn't have any background processes and I do still use it when I first boot up the phone because there are still a grip-load of extra programs running making the phone sluggish. I have to turn my phone OFF for work, so this is a bigger concern for me than for most people.

Still, I have the habit of opening ATM whenever I feel like the phone is being sluggish. Since I've installed 2.1, I've been consistently disappointed that the list of running programs is pretty empty. The disappointment is because I don't know how else to get the damn thing to stop being laggy.

Nothing for or against the app killer but how can you do three things, remove app killer, turn off 3G, and change WiFi setting, then say it was the app killer. I would think the other two may have more effect on your outcome.

I use Advanced Task Killer.

The only time the task killer runs is when I want to kill any open tasks. When select Kill Selected Apps it kills the task killer at the same time free up my available memory.

Isn't that how you're supposed to run the task killer?

There are some task killers that are always running that kill apps much more aggressively than Android normally would. Those are bad. I think everyone agrees on that one.
