Signal issues

I live in an area where I have had no Sprint signal for my Sprint Photon for several years. I can get a very weak Verizon signal which is insufficient to make or maintain calls. For these reasons, I have a Sprint Airave (1x) to provide a Sprint signal.

Last night, storms took out my internet which, of course, shut down the Airave signal. I set my Photon to EVDO rev A only and suddenly I have a strong 3g Sprint signal. My wife has an HTC evo shift and my daughter has an HTC evo 3D. Neither of their phones can get this Sprint signal when I set them to EVDO rev A -- they get no signal at all. How is this possible?

I know that Motorola makes the best antennas, but this is more that just an antenna. How is it that my phone passed up a strong Sprint signal to roam on a marginal Verizon signal or connect to a 1x Airave signal?

My Photon has been connected to this signal for 7 hours now and neither my wife's nor my daughter's HTC phones can see this signal at all.

Any ideas about this anyone?

Forget this. I still don't understand this. I do have a strong signal, but I find that it is a data signal only. No phone service. Had to revert back to any CDMA.

Considering the Photon has only been out since last July, I'm assuming you meant you were having trouble getting signal from any Sprint phone for years, rather than the Photon for years.

Nontheless, I've experienced a similar situation every now and then at my house. I'll go from full signal to no signal, but as soon as I continue taking the phone on and off standby, it starts to pick up the strong signal immediately...very strange. Sprint gets the strongest signal at my house as well, with Verizon being 2nd.

You are correct that I had no Sprint signal before I had the Photon. You are incorrect in thinking that the signal strength varies. I never have a Sprint signal.

Sorry, I mis-matched my explanation. The signal strength variation is my own experience in my area, so thought it was similar to your situation, but obviously it's not.

Have you contacted Airrave support already? There's a separate support number, just for Airrave.

I have an airave [1X]. It works. It was during a power outage when my internet was down that I noticed I could have a strong Sprint signal if I set my phone to EvDo but could still not receive a Sprint signal if I set the phone to just any CDMA.

My query was on the order of "How can I have a good data signal if I turn off phone service (EvDo only), but no signal normally?"

I notice this at work too. I have a strong Verizon signal at work but no Sprint signal. If I set my phone to EvDo, I get a strong Sprint signal.

Very strange.
