I'm not sure which order to do these in. Also note. I wish to retain the 3D part of my phone. I don't want to flash ANY rom's which make me lose 3G / 4G or MMS. I want all the perks of stock but also want to overclock and have superuser!

please help and tell me which order I should do these in. also I am new to HTC.

I rooted my LG Optimus V and changed it from 2.2 to 2.3.7 so im not a total noob but I wish to be extra careful with this phone.

looking for 1.5 - 1.7 GHz overclock looking for this phone to last and be on par with new phones!

In this order

Root:

S-Off:

Install a custom ROM.
- If you want to keep the Sense look i'd recommend Midnight ROM.

- If you don't like the Sense look i'd recommend Mobster ROM:

Flash a new radio:

If you're going to overclock you'll need the Anthrax kernel, which can be found in the forums here:

I'm currently using Mobster ROM (rooted, S-Off, Anthrax kernel overclocked to 1.5GHz) and this phone flies.

Good luck and welcome to the Evo V 4G!

First I wanna say thank you for the prompt response and the proper order to do this in.

Second the midnight rom you speak of does it have any MMS/3G/4G or any other probs like that do I still have full 3D capabilities? Cause I love watching movies in 3D on this thing and wowing friends with the 3D Awesomeness!

This phone is practically impossible to brick. I know the S-Off procedure looks intimidating, but I did it on my second try. Worst case scenario is that you wipe your SD card (so back it up before doing it) or you get stuck in a bootloop. If you get stuck all you have to do is flash the stock RUU and you'll be right back to normal.

The signal strength increases if you get s-off and flash a new radio. It also fixes a problem with this phone where texts and calls don't go though from time to time. It's worth it, trust me. I used a paperclip with electrical tape around the middle part when I did S-Off.

I was in your shoes ......
Read all the instructions first :)

Gather all the necessary files for each step - yes, 3 of the files have the same name, use folders for keep organized. My biggest problem was how to keep transferring files from PC to SD Card (this was my first real attempt at rooting)

The "wire trick" is nothing to be afraid of, after 3 or 4 tries, you get the hang of it. :)
