2.1 Bugs and Questions - Post em here

Not open for further replies.
My attempt to apply OTA update resulted in download icon seeming to be stuck (full progress bar for more than the usual amount of time) to black screen to never-ending boot loop -- Moto logo, Droid red eye, ... to infinity. In Recovery Mode, I did Factory Reset w/ Data Wipe. I'm at 2.1 now. Trident, your write-up of Recovery Mode operation in READ THIS sticky is golden. Thank you!

Time will tell how good my disaster recovery plan is -- various backups, app settings exports, ...

Not surprisingly, mail, contacts, & calendar for default Google account synced, and quickly.

Market > Downloads looks good -- at least most of my apps are there with status of free, purchased or installed.

Questions so far.
Any ideas what conditions lead to never-ending boot loop condition? I was at stock 2.0.1 and had never rooted.
Market re-installation of apps does not appear to be continuing. 9 were re-installed, 141, give or take, to go. It's been 2 or 3 of hours. I'm inclined to go into business for myself -- start manually reinstalling, in Market > Downloads. Any reason I should not do this?
Are stock browser bookmarks synced with Google account? Reason I ask is mine have been preserved, if there's anything related on SD card, I sure haven't seen it.
My strategy is to first re-install backup-related apps to enable restoration of call logs, sms, ... things where new activity will result in data loss. If you see flaws in this thinking, do tell. And if you think of things besides call logs and messages I should consider, do tell that as well.

And the day started out with so much promise. C'est la vie. :)

My roommate has reported some lag and erratic behavior before during and after making calls. Two other Droid owners I know have no issues with 2.1 but also were not rooted beforehand. I tried to update with rooted 2.0.1. Sholesmod and got stuck in the endless boot cycle. Undoubtedly has to do with being rooted. My brother works at Verizon, also a Droid owner has had no reports from customers regarding bugs in the three days since the update.

No major issues, but my startup screen does seem to take a LOT longer before the phone actually loads, and once it does none of my buttons/widgets appear for another 5-10 seconds. Additionally, once in a while when exiting a program none of the buttons are on the home screen for 3-5 seconds, and sometimes a Force Close error pertaining to the home activity will pop up ... anyone else experience anything similar, or even just notice a longer boot time?

I was also having some delay in the gmail sync. It wasn't pushing instantaneously like it used to. I'm not sure why that is. I've checked off the auto-sync and checked it back on. This seemed to help. Like how after the 2.0.1 update, the four soft keys and keyboard didn't light up in dark situations. You had to go in an click the auto-dim on/off for it work again.

LED notifications are gone, except for voicemail and I believe google's messaging client. But Handcent, Touiteur, etc. don't work. I think that the devs have to update their apps.

Haptic feedback is like the sync. You have to go back in, click it off-on and it should work. At least, it worked for me.

Battery has been good for me so far. But I've been toying with it so the device screen has been on a lot.

The main problem that I am experiencing is some notable drop frames from 2D apps. According to some articles, 2D apps are dropping half the frames (60 fps to 30 fps), intermittently. It makes for some really annoying gaming experiences. From what it sounds like, it might just be that the devs need to update their coding, or Moto/VZW needs to release some sort of a patch to bring us back up to 2.0.1 speeds on 2D apps.

Other than those, I haven't played with the device enough to catch all the nuances.

Considering there were warnings all over the place about not updating if you are rooted, you should know that yes, it was the root that caused your problems.

Thanks for your help! I went into settings to uncheck the haptic feedback but it will not let me? I see a green checkmark but i can not uncheck it :(

Dont know what the deal is with my battery or gmail sync. I did uncheck and recheck the sync but it doesnt seem to help but it does make the mail get pushed for that time though.

To all you guys experiencing LED notification problems, is your screen on when you got the notification? its normal on 2.1 it no longer blinks your led if its on since it shows on the bar, it only does it when the screen is off/locked.

Yes this is it. Thanks! I dont like this new functionality but i guess i will get used to it!

A few questions... I recieved 2.1, yay.

What happened to additional home screens? I still have 3.

What happened to the cool menu button like it is on the nexus one? Mine looks the same.

Are these two features not included in the droid?
That's correct. We were not lucky enough to get 5 screens or the cool app drawer like the Nexus One. Sorry... :(

I just got 2.1 this morning and I'm wondering if the update will fix me muting calls with my face? That, so far, is my biggest problem with my droid. I either mute calls, try to add calls, or put my calls on speaker during the call all the time.
If it doesn't, there may be something wrong with your proximity sensor. Can you make a test call for me right quick and place your hand over the top portion of the phone while in call and tell me if the screen goes off or not?
