To be honest I've liked Android far more than iOS (even when it has its quirks). I've found my Galaxy Nexus to far more stable than my Eris ever was. No crashes, no major OS related bugs (app bugs happen, not Android's fault though), and everything is SO FAST (the "cool" factor of a phone lasts a lot longer and its a whole lot better when you keep the same phone for two full years).

Although, thank god my mom and sister switched to iPhone 4GS's after being on Droid Eris's for 2 years. Seriously, it got annoying dealing with them saying "stupid thing isn't working, fix it please". Or asking me to root them, since they saw how much faster mine was with a custom ROM, then asking to remove root because it started acting up.

So nice letting the iPhone just take care of itself. And if their iPhones have issues, I'm completely absolved because "i dunno I haven't used iOS since 3".

The last Android phone I owned was the Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile and I have to admit that as far as Android goes that really was an excellent phone. Very few problems and it was really fast. I will only recommend Nexus devices going forward.

I think the key there wasn't so much that it was a Nexus, but that Jelly Bean was a huge step forward for Android. It finally had a UI as smooth as iOS (which is impressive considering how much more versatile it is). My DNA is equally smooth and fast, and I am thrilled with it.

In my case, the Galaxy Nexus was the key. Jumping from a device based on the HTC Hero, running 2.1, and 256 MB of RAM and a nearly 4 year old processor at this point, the Nexus was an incredible jump hardware wise.

Although yes, Jelly Bean made tons of improvements performance wise. Like I said, huge jump from 2.1, although I dabbled in a few Froyo and Gingerbread ROMs on that old phone.

EDIT: It does make me wonder how much iOS has been improved since I got rid of my iPod Touch 2G.

I remember there being this nasty bug in iOS 4 where if you loaded a web page that was too big, it actually crashed the entire device and it would reboot. It crashed the web browser on my Eris, but all I got was an application not responding error.

I wish the Android ecosystem was as fluid as the iProducts, but it's not and likely won't ever be. That said, it's customizing that makes Android so cool. I don't need to customize games or music, which is why I have and really enjoy my iPod.

But if I want my phone to work the way I want it to work, Android all the way.

I posted here because I've been a member here for so long and enjoy this community.

Out of curiosity what do you mean by customizing? I hear people say that all the time but I'm curious to hear what examples you can provide?

No worries wmurphy, of course you wanted to let folks you've been in the trenches with for over 18 months know what you thought of the iPhone. I'd offer examples of customization, but I haven't done that since my OG Droid days.

I hope you post back some more about your experiences as (even as an Android fan) I'd rather someone have the right device for them even if it is an iDevice. I have no experience myself with iOS so it's good to hear from someone with experience with both.

I posted here because I've been a member here for so long and enjoy this community.

Out of curiosity what do you mean by customizing? I hear people say that all the time but I'm curious to hear what examples you can provide?

For one thing, I can remove my app dock on the home screen so that when I go to the next home page, all of the icons and widgets change. I can also change the number of rows or columns. I have mine set to 6 rows x 4 columns and no app dock. I also can change the keyboard on my phone. I use Thumb Keyboard a it has layouts and features I like more than other keyboards.

So far I haven't had any problems with my android phones (I got rid of the PCD chaser and got a kyocera rise an it's MUCH nicer!) I haven't had ether of these phones long enough to actually say if they have problems or not (the chaser using gingerbread and the rise using ice cream sandwich) but I have been using apple products forever and have always had problems with them. My iPod touch has the worst battery life ever and my friend just had to dump his iPhone 4 because it decided it only wants to work on 3G and not wifi. And that was his second 4. He now has the 4s and we will see how that goes. My touch is a pile of software bugs and bad design...... Really bad design... Bit ICS is great!.....so far anyway. Hope this helps. I don't like being a Debbie Downer lol
