Apps Question on Signing Android

Though I am still a big fan of symbian phones, but now I am being more interested in android mobiles.
I want to know only 1 question, and please add it in this FAQ.

Does android also need any signing process before installation?? and can I install paid apps by any means without purchasing them?

whoever creates the rom does the signing, if your creating a rom or altering a rom you will need to resign it

yes you can install paid apps without paying, but not thru the market and you wont get updates
