Nexus s 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 (OTA missed?)

Hi!

I've had a Nexus S since May and it was a great experience until 4.0.4...

Ever since, and becoming more regularly, it's been rebooting every few minutes. I've heard that 4.1.x should fix this, but that the OTA release was months ago and since I don't have data on my phone and rely on wifi to get my updates, I guess I never saw it.

Right now I'm going through a full battery charge in about 4 hours with it rebooting every... 3-5 minutes and turning the wifi on by default. I'd be more or less fine if it weren't for turning on the wifi out in the middle of the woods...

So I'm looking for a 4.0.4 to 4.1.x update. I've been googling for days now and it seems everyone has forgotten about the Nexus S and all of the stuff I come across is updates from 4.1.1 to .2 and Nexus 7 & 10 stuff. I'm getting really frustrated by all this and don't want to go to a custom OS. I mean, that'll come one day... but I only use my phone as that, a phone.. and Dance Dance Revolution machine..

So I'd like to say...

I'm continuing to look into this and when I try to do the OTA update I come across some issues. Just about every guide has told me that I have to force shutdown 'Google Framework Services' from the 'All apps' menu..

Well first of all, 'all' is now an option in my apps menu... I see, 'Downloaded, USB Storage, Running'... that's it.. They're selectable top tabs, so I can't try scrolling to the right or left for more options.

In 'Running' I see 'Google Services' but no Framework mention... There is also no 'Force stop' option.

Just update it manually by unlocking the bootloader, installing CWM and then flashing the OTA update file.

Make sure you download the right firmware version for your phone!

If you have the I9023 T-Mobile model, look for the same instructions but with the firmware for that model.

NO!!! For the love of all things good, DON'T STOP THE GOOGLE FRAMEWORK!!!

OMG.

I wanted to go to 4.1.2 myself, and I tried stopping the Google Framework Services... Yeah. It wrecks your phone! The Google Play store will 'lose' your device on the website.

And calling the Google Help people... HA! That's a JOKE.

I had to clear the Google Play cache and download an app I didn't give a flip about JUST to get the device to 're-sync' to the Play store website.

I know it will be a pain, but maybe backup your stuff and do a factory reset. It COULD be an app that went AWOL for you.

I doubt that would happen. And rebooting the phone restarts the default services so the Framework would restart, unless there was an issue with the setup.

If a factory reset has never been done, then I agree. It's a good way to wipe things clean and let the system setup using defaults.
