I know Apple has made a big deal out of the size of their apps store, and thus set the bar on what is to be viewed as success of a software market, but I don't give a crap how many apps a market has if it either doesn't have the apps I want or is overflowing with sub-par or outright rotten apps.

thank you thank you thank you! someone here understands where i am coming from.... who cares about growth and numbers? weed grows fast too but it's the number of orchids that counts.....how many of the "apps" are actual app, as in application, as in a feature that is usable, practical, functional, and well-designed?

I agree, Android apps should put quality over quantity. I browse the store all the time and a good 85% is crap. Sad thing is I see the same crap on the iPhone store, so it's not just an Android problem.

Oh, definitely. The iPhone store is just as bad... can't help but be. No way there are 185,000 apps that are all unique and even remotely worthwhile. So many apps on the iPhone store seem to be front ends for what is otherwise available on X company's website. On Android it seems to be alot of themes.

The numbers game is senseless, especially being pushed by Apple. As a former Mac follower (up until around 2001), the comments from the Mac side was always that it didn't matter that Windows had multiples more programs (and especially games) than the Mac, as the Mac got the good stuff (or so we deluded ourselves into thinking). Now suddenly because they've got the numbers in the mobile market, it's all different?

Google and the Android press should snub Apple, and refuse to play that game.
