Compatible Aftermarket Long Life Battery

Hi forum,
I'm looking for a long life battery for my LG Optimus Elite VM696. I realize that if I installed an oversized battery, that I would need to put a different back on the phone chassis, and that in doing so the near-field-communications (NFC) functions would be crippled. I don't use NFC anyway, and don't have any intention of using it, so would would be willing to sacrifice it for better battery life. Does anybody know if there is a battery pack and phone back that would be compatible with the Elite. This information would be hugely useful to me.

As far as I know, as this has been a subject brought up in the past, there never has been a larger-capacity, legitimate alternate battery for this phone. The battery for this little phone is actually quite large for it, in capacity, in and of itself (it's surprising). Also, with the proper procedures, you can get up to two and a half days (that's 60 hours) of use on a single charge (and have it recharge fully in as little as one hour), so an extra battery is also not necessary. Also, I wouldn't trust aftermarket batteries anyway unless they came from the manufacturer itself.

You can also use a portable power station/battery. Its a rechargable battery pack that can be used to charge the phone. Just make sure the one you get has good reviews, micro USB capability, and about 700-1000ma charge @ 5v.

Thank you for your response. I appreciate this information.
I am able to get maybe 24 hours of use by modifying some settings and disabling some features, namely 3G. The trouble is, I often need to use 3G connectivity when I'm out, and circumstances disallow me from being able to recharge. Unfortunately, the data connection really drains the battery quickly, which I understand is an issue where I live. It's been addressed in some other threads in this forum. Perhaps I'll have to try out your custom Rom and see if that breathes some life into the phone and affords a little more charge time.

This may be what I have to do.

I'm using an AceSoft 1840mAh battery that I got from Amazon.

So far it's doing good.

If you get a new battery, make sure you leave it charging for a few hours even it it says 100%. Then let your phone drain completely. That calibrates the battery so that it gives a correct reading. I would suggest only letting it completely discharge ONLY one time since discharging completely lowers battery life.

That's enviable battery life, surely. Do you use 3G at all?

I use 3g and WiFi, but I also have a Tasker profile set up that turns them both off when the screen goes off unless something is downloading. If anything is downloading, it waits until the download is done before turning them off.

I hadn't used my phone much for 2 days before taking that screen shot, though I did make a few phone calls near the end. So, it's not really a good indication of my battery life with moderate to heavy use.

If anybody is interested, I could export the Tasker profile I use to XML and upload it.

Just make sure you have a good app killer/battery app running..

GPS and WiFi eat battery life.. so, if you're not using either, turn them off!

I bought a couple of the same batteries a few months ago and I've been using them since then. Pretty quickly one of the batteries started to act funny...

I had the battery in the phone for a day or two and once it got down to >15% I started charging it, but after a little bit I noticed that the battery level wouldn't change and it kept saying to plug the phone in. I charged it on a separate charger that I bought with the batteries and put it into the phone, but when I tried to turn it on a screen came up saying there was no battery in the phone. I got it working by booting into CWM and deleting the battery stats, but if I try to charge it on the phone it still won't say it's charging and the battery level won't rise.

Now I use that one as an emergency backup only. Mind you this happened after I had successfully used that same battery multiple times with no issues, so I'm not sure what caused it to stop charging properly. The other battery has never given me any trouble but I'd be hard pressed to say that it lasts any longer than the stock battery. The main benefit for me is that if I'm going to be out somewhere for an extended period of time I make sure and bring all three of my batteries fully charged so I don't have to worry if I cant find a place to charge.

Wifi doesn't really eat battery, but 3G melts it.

On my last trip out of state, I charged my OE fully (stock battery) before leaving. We spent two days out of state. The night we came back (about two and a half days' time after we left), I still had 20%. I never had to charge my OE. You shouldn't need three batteries unless you're planning to be a week without a charger, or planning to turn your phone into a lighthouse.

I know you're a big proponent of Juice Defender, and get great battery life. In my experience though, Juice Defender has not been of much help. I've tried it a few times and I haven't seen much help with battery life. It seems to mainly just manage 3g and wifi, which I do myself using Notification Toggle and Tasker.

I can get my battery to last a few days if I'm very careful to use it as little as possible, but if I need to use GPS for more than a few minutes or if I want to play games it just won't last more than a day.

So I can't go 60 hours without a charge, but it's mostly a non-issue since I have a charger at home, at work, and in my car, and I have two spare batteries for the rare instances where charging isn't an option.

Just wanted to add, that today, while surfing around, I found a battery from Radio Shack (of all places) that claims its a replacement for the BL-48LN battery..

I'm just wondering if anyone has bought this, and tried it? Does it FIT with the standard case back?

For $32.00 it seems a bit steep.. But, if it works, and you'd get a few days of battery life outta it, or, if you get a full day, of heavy use, I'd be tempted to get one and give it a go..

My AceSoft batteries I got are doing OK... I get maybe 2 extra hours of life outta them, than I do with the standard LG battery..
