star wars a tv series??????

the thing for me that the article mentioned was that there were plans to spend 5 million per episode!!!!! now i might be curious as to how that plays out. i mean the writing has to be top notch though. i can see something like game of thrones style writing. i really do not want to see characters like luke or hans solo with somebody else playing them....that would just be dumb.

i really hope this is just an idea and nothing will come of it.

Don't get too hung up on who plays what role. Look how many have played Sherlock Holmes, Batman, Superman, Spiderman and James Bond. Different interpretations to be sure, but all have a place and are of their time.

yeah but i think there is just something special about the star wars universe then any comic book universe. the characters are so much more then then any super hero....at least for me. in particular the orginal three for me growing up was almost a religious experience. to have some else play these characters would just ruin the whole thing.......i mean lucas almost ruined Episode IV A New Hope, when he added Hayden Christensen instead of the orginal Anakin Skywalker at the very end. I did not see a reason to do that, but that is water under the bridge now.

but seeing another part of the star wars universe with new characters that helped in the rebel alliance would be very cool...i think.

Meesa thinks that Lucas ruined Episode IV by adding dinosaurs, changing who shot first (it was Han), but mostly by making episodes one through three.

Darth was a self-centered whiner. Who knew? And now the Force comes from little critters so we don't upset any religions.

The article says it takes place on Trantor, er, I mean Coruscant.

Could be interesting.

Could be.

It's sure to be a hit, to a point. It's had the BSG authors but it's going on ABC.

I think I'll just be skeptical about the possible quality of the story. And the characters. None of whom are likely to get bumped off.

well i have my doubts as it is going to be on abc. now if it was on like showtime or hbo i would have a little more interest. those networks being on cable will have more freedom on the show then a major network like abc. abc is just going to dumbed it down and i can't see it lasting more then a season or two.

do not get me wrong as i would love to see the world of star wars as much as possible. but we are talking about a network whose only show i have watched in like 20 some years was Lost.

i mean what else critically acclaimed have they done?
-desparate housewives.....pass
-the bachelor..................pass
-modern famliy................ok i watch this from time to time
-revenge........................pass
-body of lies...................pass

its all crap shows. so i have my doubts, so we will see.....i guess.

is that true?

its a rumor.....that i hope does not come to its fruition. since disney bought the rights to the star wars name, they are planning do somethings with it. i do know that they are looking to make another trilogy of star wars movies. it would not surprise me if this will actually happen.

You raise an interesting point.

TV network executives are often quoted as saying that sci-fi fails and they cite bad ratings. Never, ever getting that it's their fault.

How this works: people tune in to the first few episodes, but not everyone, they wait to hear if network tv has screwed sci-fi fans again. If it's any good, audiences will switch, as people who only like safe shows tune out and fans tune in. If it doesn't draw enough right away, execs rush in and fix it. If it draws many, execs rush in and fix it.

What did we get after waiting decades for Star Trek? A bunch of people who walked calmly and safely during red alerts, kinda like shopping mall speed, and someone on the bridge to tell the captain that the enemy might be feeling insecure enough to lie. And Kirk was split into Picard (who couldn't pronounce schedule), Riker and Wesley because polls showed that most people didn't believe that a Kirk could exist. Eventually, we got DS-9, the best of that franchise, but it was never built on.

I'm cynical about ABC and Disney getting their hands on the franchise.

I'm sure a lot of people are going to love it.

I'll be happy to eat my words if I'm wrong.

Meanwhile, knock, knock. Who's there? I like Doctor.

Me, too. ;)

PS - 100% agree about finding interesting things in the Lounge! :)

common disney really? a tv series? i really hope not!!!!!

ABC to look at 'Star Wars' live-action TV series - CNN.com

Fwiw, the series has been planned LONG before the disney merger, even before Clone Wars cartoon came out.

I like the idea, and as long as they do it right I think it could be very entertaining.

Disney has big plans for the franchise, and while I'm excited to see most of them, I'm sure there will be lots who hate it.

That said, we will always have the original trilogy. And if you're crafty, or a collector, you still have the TRUE original triliogy on VHS (like me, :p)

I liked everything about the special editions though, except for the greedo shot first thing... BLASPHEMY!

Maybe if it was on cable, but ABC? Lame. Disney is totally pimping the Star Wars franchise out already. Besides the next trilogy and the tv show, they already have at least two stand alone movies planned, one featuring the adventures of young Han Solo. I guess they want to make their 4 billion dollars back as soon as possible. On the plus side, Harrison Ford is said to be on board for Episode 7. That's something, at least.

yeah NightAngel79, like Gmash said, its on ABC. if it was on any other network then i would give it more thought. i mean like i said aside from a few shows what has that network really produced that you would sit down and watch? this is my only issue. i would love to see a star wars series made, but on a different network.

Episode 7, Attack of the Old Dudes
