Hello everyone and anyone,

My HTC hero has just arrived today and I'd like to update it straight away before using it, is there anything I need to do before doing this other than syncing the phone to my laptop? What is the best update to use for unlocked, vodafone SIM HTC heroes? Also as mentioned earlier I have a vodafone SIM and my last phone was a nokia navigator, I've copied all my contacts to my SIM, should this be enough for me to get my contacts up and running when I use my hero??? Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me with this. ;)

I agree with Slug. I have a Hero unbranded on Vodafone using the latest update from HTC.
What I recommend you do is update the phone with the official upgrade before you do anything else. There is no point in using the unofficial roms at this stage as you don’t necessarily know how it will work for you.
As for contacts, I have never had a Nokia but my last phone was a Sony Ericsson.
I synced my contacts with outlook from my sony and then exported the folder to a CSV file. After creating the Google account you want to use with the phone, import the contacts into the same account on a computer at www.google.com/contacts

Then the phone will be ready to rock. It worked a treat from my old phone and there were a few traps for the import facility to get mixed up with but it worked perfectly.
I personally don’t recommend putting the contacts on a sim as they never import properly for me.

I hope you enjoy the phone, it will take you a week to get used to it but i hope you love it as much as i love mine.
